Last weekend I was in Barcelona sketching and generally having an amazing time. This is Barceloneta, in the large Plaça del Poeta Boscà with its wonderfully funky market building. #urbansketching

A #painting from Ireland's south coast. "Ardmore" is an exalted place for me, not because of the Round Tower, but because when I was small I stayed in a caravan and every day you'd jump over the dunes to the beach after first eating a bowl of Puffa Puffa Rice. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm #TidesOutTuesday

A #painting "Portrush Harbour came after cycling from Derry around Binevenagh and on to north Antrim where after sleeping off a sickness for 24 hours in Portrush I walked to the harbour the next day. When I finished painting this scene I cycled off around the Causeway Coast. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm

"North Earl Street". A #painting I did as a celebration of the Dublin street, and something called the Spire. Buildings and streets are like a fairground to me, because I love squares. You may recognise Dunnes Stores, and the old Kylemore if you like your tea. #ArtYear #UrbanGaze #SpeirGhorm

A #painting from last year. "Kilmore Quay Boat" came out of looking at this boat in Ireland's southeast for an age once upon a time. Its shape and texture kept bringing me back for repeat visits. #SpeirGorm #ArtYear #ColorADay #RedWed

"Inishmore Horse". A special #painting for me. As an unpaid carer I don't earn much but wanted to give back. So with permission I used a friend's photo as reference, and donated half of the proceeds to the charity of their choice - the Down Syndrome Centre in Dublin's northside. #ArtYear #SpeirGorm

Galway you're a class act.
Our own van broke down proper on the way into town.

Every mechanic, taxi driver, van hire and B&B lady was helpful, cheery and kind.

Thank you Galway, stay gold.

Onwards...

Have yourself a #painting. "Sky Road Houses", a scene I saw after cycling down the Sky Road overlooking Clifden Bay. With its glorious views I'm not sure what the best thing about it was but, as the Atlantic caressed Ireland's coastline, the evening sun enveloping me wasn't bad. #SpeirGorm #ArtYear

Time to share a #painting with you. "West Cork". My knees often aren’t happy in west Cork. People have to lift me out of couches. On the other hand when you cycle up those hills, or even their mountain passes, you tend to get glorious views. So I painted this, it’s my West Cork. #SpeirGorm #ArtYear

A #painting that was on the go for long time. "Roundstone Boats" is a scene south of the village and harbour where a turn down to Roundstone Bay takes you to where sleeping boats rest. I started it in 2004 and wasn't happy with it until it looked like this - in 2020. #SpeirGorm #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm

I started writing about how we need to exist with people we disagree with and that, in fact, this is basically what human societies is about.

I've now expanded it because all too often someone we hold in high regard goes much further out on the shithead scale

I disagree
We all need to live in a world with people we disagree with; but when our favourite artist reveals themselves to be terrible, we don’t need to beat outselves up because we enjoyed their art

A #painting today for you called "Greenway Bicycle" that I did during one of my 24-hour video live-streaming painting things. Not my bicycle but I can heartily recommend cycling the Great Western Greenway as a way to enjoy Clew Bay, Achill and more Mayo marvellousness. #SpeirGorm #JanuArty

This is the most enthralling podcast I've listened to in years (from 2018). "Surviving Y2K"
"meet the people for whom it was anything but a joke — computer coders, conspiracy theorists, survivalists, and true believers — as they each face their own version of the apocalypse"

Hired builders to put in new stairs and now I can't tell if I'm going upstairs or downstairs. One of the children ended up on the UNDERSIDE of the steps, fell and cut her head. Raised it with the builders and they just shrugged. Typical Irish attitude of "Escher, it'll be grand".
