#filmfan#TheBrutalist. A magnificent film about a Hungarian architect (a refugee from Europe after WW2) who is taken on by a wealthy American to design and supervise the construction of a new building. Both the acting performances and the script are superb. Recommended.
#filmfan “A real pain” Two cousins visit Poland and the concentration camp that their grandmother had endured. They both irritate and love each other. Much like my reaction to this film. So recommended with a slight health warning!
#filmfan Heretic. A devilishly clever script which sees a mischievously evil (and brilliant Hugh Grant) set about trying to persuade a couple of young female Mormon advocates that his “religious” belief system is superior to theirs. A sort of horror movie but all part of the fun!
#filmfan. On Becoming a Guinea Fowl. Set in Zambia, this film explores the reactions of a family to the death of an “uncle” who many of them knew, but refused to acknowledge, was a serial abuser. Strong cultural traditions clash with more modern mind-sets in this very engaging film. Recommended.
#filmfan The cardinals gather to elect a new Pope. All the intrigues and Backstabbings you would hope for. Ralph Fiennes is superb as the conveyor of the whole thing. Recommended
