Ready for @classicsacademy.bsky.social ‘s #bookclub with these two coming up. Zuchtriegel’s book is a joy with a mix of historical info and musings on the craft of being an historian/archaeologist. Also practice for my rusty German. #zuchtriegel #Goldsworthy #ancientBluesky #ancientRome
Books: Zuchtriegel, Vom Zauber des Untergangs. Goldsworthy, Augustus

In Belfast for the week to take a very short beginner’s course in ancient Greek at Queen’s University.

Today, the alphabet, diphthongs, diacritic marks, & first transliterations.

Homework tonight: more transliteration (of English words received from the Greek more-or-less whole - eg ambrosia). 📚
A view of the inner court at Queen’s university, showing a very collegial two story red brick building. My Greek primer, “Athenaze: An Introduction to Ancient Greek”
My course schedule - two sessions daily along with two guest lectures (and a film for fun).

Having a really excellent time in my 'read a book by a woman from every country in the world' challenge, tbh. Just finished Tajikistan, and now it's onto Estonia. I've read 125 books, so there's only 72(ish)* to go...

Truly wonderful, numinous place.

The temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion holds a special, magical quality. Is it the spectacular location and the views over the Aegean sea, or the breathtaking beauty of the temple's remains and what they stand for?

**goosebumps**

My workspace is too messy to share - Summer School preparations are in full swing and this is manifested in the busy-ness of my desk!
Anyway, here are my (still messy) bookshelves instead.
