I totally agree (meant to explicitly add that). It's women's football and men's football. It's not women's football and football (screw that, btw).

I always use the gender qualifier so sometimes forget others don't always.

Thanks for replying (& not hating me for the post!)
Women's football should distance itself from the toxic overtones men's football has been saddled with and be PROUD to be building something different. Something more inclusive, something aspirational and inspirational.

Thoughts?
I'm about to piss off people in women's football.

I think we SHOULD use the term "women's football" rather than just "football".

Sure the game on the pitch is the same regardless of who's playing it. The game is always football. But the culture is not the same. And I don't want it to be the same.
Always a class act, Neville. Right back at you.
I'm really enjoying learning more about Natalia Arroyo and the way she's rebuilding Aston Villa.
After two bangers against West Ham last week, Natalia Arroyo, Aston Villa Women's boss, is understandably "more than happy to score amazing goals, but also we need to keep improving to create more."

"This quality in the last third, we are close but we are not as clinical as we need to be."

"I'll take a team over individuals any day".

Marc Skinner saying the words that I've said myself to my team. It's not every coach's philosophy but I think it captures the spirit of football.

It isn't necessarily all about having the best individual players, it's about building a team.
I may or may not have told Natalia that she inspired me to tell my team of teenage boys to "be brave" in matches. I did mean with a high press but I'll filter in some nuanced messages through the season.

Thanks, Natalia.
It's not just about a high press:

"Brave is also understanding, I can run now because I was, running up and down a few times.
And brave is I stay here with my moment and when it's my moment I go for it. So, yeah, it's understanding"

Having that confidence to make decisions & trust them.
Aston Villa Women were brave against Chelsea last week & had a positive performance. Natalia Arroyo says they will continue being brave this week:

"We are a brave team. I am a brave person. I think it's the best way of approaching the games."

She also talked about what being brave means.

Natalia Arroyo says Aston Villa need "a little bit more bravery" against Chelsea as they "weren't brave enough against Brighton".

But also recognising they are up against a "giant" and "need to accept that and allow players to have a little bit of fear but not too much."
