He wouldn't have. So the question becomes, if Trump did not feel provoked/motivated to run for president, who else would have satisfied that deranged social appetite? Considering how inexorable those pressures seem, it's bizarrely unclear that anyone else could have filled the role like he did.

I guess that would depend on something I admit I'm not clear on: how far along were right-wing US electeds (like Dana Rohrbacher) and institutions (like NRA) in the process of being compromised, captured, and co-opted by Russia? Could Romney have steered that, or would it have steered him?

I'm just going to say this for anyone who needs to hear it: trans rights are human rights. Attacking trans people and their rights is a favorite Nazi wedge issue when they assault our common humanity. It is now a key component in the Trump/Miller program. I will never agree to disagree about this.

Nazis always target trans people first because they're a small, vulnerable minority that is easy to demonize with gross mischaracterizations that feed into unfortunately widespread prejudices and anxieties.

This has been my take on Biden's stance all along. At a formative point in his politics & for very good reasons, support for Israel became a bedrock principle for him, too fundamental to change even when circumstances demanded it.

Given his age, experience, and convictions, he was probably just about the uniquely worst person to ask to be "the American president who abandoned/betrayed our ally Israel," which I bet is how he sees it. Not excusing anything; just tragic in every sense of the word.
