Lovely piece about the physicality of research, survival, and what's considered worthy of cataloguing. AI in the humanities cannot generate new knowledge, just reorder the minuscule smattering of facts that have already been catalogued.
LLM-based gen AI for writing, audio, art, and video are "digital vultures bloated on stolen books [and other human-made things] which they churn together and vomit out in imitations of words from actual thinking, feeling brains."

To remain useful and usable it has to evolve and adapt to different uses, users, and systems.

Metadata is no longer done, locked and finished, it needs engagement and reviewing, publishers who in the past may have just looked at the start, the Library can review and show how the discoverability end reaches end users #NAGWebinarWeek
