Yes. I actually wasn’t sure if Deathblow was POC in the original…he had a sort of Dwayne Johnson coloring a lot of the time. But like you said it’s not time/place dependent while Frank is very much NYC (and 1970s, tbh…I was born in NYC in 1971).

What I think Garth Ennis did so well is suggest that Punisher doesn’t want to face the fact that he was always a dude who likes killing, and has just channeled it into an M.O. that his Catholic NYC upbringing can rationalize and accept. He barely remembers his family other than their death.

I walked into a dude’s place and he had the original art for this cover on his wall. I stopped in my tracks and gazed upon it like it was the ark of the covenant. It’s beautiful on its own, but the sense-memory of the whole thing overwhelmed me for a moment.
