Most of the refuges along the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) are supplied by road or helicopter, but one we stayed at gets everything by pack horse (mule?). At 2443m, Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme is remote & wild, with only simple food & amenities.

After the storm ...

TMB Day 2: we hiked 12 kms, climbing nearly 1,000 m from Les Contamines to Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme. Shortly after we arrived, the weather turned - from hot and sunny to thunder, lightning, and hail.
