💬 ‘I have a fragile feeling of hope. A hope that Gaza could recover and life could return to how it was before the war. A hope that Gaza could rise from under the rubble.’ - Reham, communications co-ordinator with Christian Aid’s partner in Gaza, Women’s Affairs Centre (WAC).

Reham and her colleagues have worked tirelessly with no breaks for 2yrs on the frontline.

The current ceasefire has given them a chance to mourn. They’ve not had the luxury to grieve over the past 2yrs. Now they're returning home they’re having to work hand in hand to rebuild.

When Reham’s family fled last month when Israeli tanks were at the doorstep, she feared her home would be turned to rubble. This is what is left of it amid a sea of destruction.

‘There’s a sea of pain that doesn’t get traded or released. Yes, hope flickers for a moment but the exhaustion, the loss & the fear will still sit deep inside.’ - Hani Askari who works for Christian Aid’s partner, Palestinian Centre for Human Rights.

As our partners move to upscale our humanitarian response, we appeal to world leaders to provide the energy, commitment & principle needed to deliver justice, dignity & prosperity for all.

‘While some will claim this as a historic day, the litmus test will be addressing the root causes of this conflict. Returning to the old status quo will doom Palestinians & Israelis to more tragedy.’ - William Bell.

A sustainable peace is more than the absence of violence.

We welcome the news Israel & Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza. It offers the people in Gaza respite from the relentless bombardment, displacement & deprivation.

This is good news for the hostages while also recognising the massive scale of aid that is now needed in Gaza.

The Palestinian people must therefore be active participants in peace, not bystanders. That will require a clearer path to the international recognition of a state of Palestine.

'A sustainable peace of justice, dignity & prosperity for all is not possible until the occupation of all Palestinian territory—including West Bank & East Jerusalem—is ended, full accountability be implemented & Palestinians & Israelis are treated as equals.’ - William Bell.

This plan proposed by the White House answers some of those calls, in addition to the importance of interfaith dialogue. There is also a firm commitment to ensure no one is forced to leave Gaza and those who wish to do so will have the freedom to return.

The conflict in Gaza has taken a devastating toll on the people in Gaza.

We continue our call on the int. community to do everything in its power to allow aid into Gaza, halt its brutal military campaign & implement a ceasefire to end the suffering & see the hostages released.

For more than seven decades, this cycle of displacement & deprivation has continued, making the right to dignity, stability & self-determination not just a political demand, but an urgent human necessity.

Confined to overcrowded camps communities have been forced to build vertically, creating densely packed & precarious living spaces. Alongside these harsh physical conditions, Palestinians endure routine hostility & discrimination, deepening their sense of exile & marginalisation.

Since the Nakba in 1948, the Palestinian story has been defined by displacement & the struggle to return home.

Millions of Palestinians remain refugees, living in the oPt & across the Middle East. Often denied basic human rights, like work restrictions in Lebanon.

The war has stripped Gaza's children of their innocence, their homes & their future. Beyond the physical destruction, the conflict has robbed them of the educational opportunities that are essential for their development.

As schools go back around the UK we can’t forget the over 650,000 children in Gaza who aren’t able to access education.

‘Previously we were proud that there was no single illiterate child in Gaza, now we are talking about an entire illiterate generation.’ - Christian Aid partner

This is a devasting blow, coming on top of the 2023 earthquake in Herat and the continuing dire economic situation. Even before this heartbreaking earthquake, Afghanistan was under immense strain.

People have been severely impacted by the earthquake, causing both human casualties & significant financial losses. We've been told homes made of mud & wood collapsed as helicopters were sent in to evacuate the injured.

Please keep the people of Afghanistan in your prayers 🙏

When the earth trembles and the mountains quake and the earth melts away…
Hold our hearts, God. Send our hands and feet to help however we can.
When the skies darken and the foundations falter and hell erupts underneath…
Hold our hearts, God. Send our hands and feet to help however we can. Graphic with text: When fear and grief shake foundations to the core and continue their devastation long after the world falls still…
Hold our hearts, God. Send our hands and feet to help however we can.
Our sisters and brothers, our family, in Afghanistan live this horror - now.
God of uncontrollable love and mercy, may we match your love in the way we respond - now.
Amen.

Stop starving Gaza.

We continue our #FastForGaza because the Israeli gov continues to use starvation as a weapon of war.
Palestinians are starving. Starvation is a war crime under international law. And silence is complicity.
