Dark-eyed Juncos are back. They may have never left but they're back to high visibility now, maybe a little earlier in the season than usual for the area. I'm not sure, really. I haven't kept a catalog. North Oregon coast.

Going out to feed animals this morning, I spotted this Steller’s Jay, strategically positioned to keep an eye on my front door.

Apparently I have my own personal Watch Bird now

Calmly waiting for me to come outside, this Steller’s Jay, blue feathers shining in a dapple of morning sunlight, waited for me to exit the house and walk down into the yard before flying off to inform his comrades of my impending arrival. 20 November 2025, Sandlake Oregon. Nikon D7200. To be fair, I was about half an hour late for morning feeding so I can see their cause for concern. If I’m late again, perhaps they will knock on my door.

Changing seasons means changing birds..

We still have many Steller's Jays but tonight I think we have a Fox Sparrow sharing with a young Dark-eyed Junco, who perhaps appreciates having a big friend around. #birds

Clouded #sunset over the western field.
It hasn't been that long since I posted a sunset picture from the farm, but things have changed a lot. The red utility building in the field, often featured in those photos can no longer be seen. It isn't gone, it's to the right of the photo, over my shoulder where the sun used to set. But now the sun is so far south I feel like it's ready to disappear. Like I've slipped into a different universe. Everything is fine, I'm sure, but it does not feel like it. North Oregon coast. Fujifilm X-H1.
