Found this take totally randomly. Would agree post, I dunno 2008 GFC. Previously I think there’s a good case for them offering space and instruction to a wide range of voices (even with rampant discrimination of college admins at any point in history)

Yeah, not really sure what all the strategic and tactical implications are for recognizing that most of the “opposition” party and all of its leadership is more comfortable with fascists than a popular front including the left but, uh, someone should get on figuring those out 🤷‍♀️

For the record, "minors" != "all minors" and neither !="teenagers" which I then further refined to 17 year olds, who can already drive, marry, and buy firearms in Texas, but cannot vote.

Yes. minors should vote. Felons shouldn't lose their franchise. Registration should be automatic. Non-citizens should be able to vote in local elections. Election day should be a month long. A federal holiday. Mandatory paid time off. Vote by mail. Vote from prison. Yes to all the democratic things.

I suppose, at the end of the day, that a truly mind-boggingly number of people have chosen to read “expand the franchise” as “give children votes” and you did the extra to work to get to “that their parents will hijack” is, in fact, now my problem

And it warps our perspective. It isn't clear to me that Texas' existing electorate, as it stands now, is fully onboard with Trumpian fascism. Maybe they are, but there's no definitive way to know; if we expanded the electorate, there's really no way to know how they'd vote!
