Marvellous views of the Turkestan Shrike on Dunwich Heath in the window of sunshine we had this morning. Always keeping to the sheltered side of bushes as it was blowing a hoolie!

Some splendid inverts seen in Brittany in the last week included some non-UK species like the bee-fly Villa Hottentotta and the firebug lookalike Melanocoryphus albomaculatus plus Hornet Robberfly and Violet Ground Beetle.

Any Suffolk or Norfolk botanists know if Hog Fennel, Peucedanum officinale still persists at Southwold? And if so where?! I can only find mention of it in 1994 ‘in reeds near the harbour’
