Every single day, I think about the title of Rebecca Shaw's piece in The Guardian ("I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down – I just didn’t expect them to be such losers") and it grinds so hard on my soul. Disgusting, foolish, amoral, egotistical losers. All of them. Blech.

I have to say, I'm amused by folks in 2025 still touting angel food cake as a fabulous fat-free dessert, as if all that sugar won't wreck your arteries if you're not careful. As if most of us won't be adding a big ol dollop of whipped cream to our slice. 🤭

Look at that ridiculousness. @aureanator.bsky.social agrees that it tastes like a fluffy cloud of love and joy. I made two loaves, so one will become chocolate raspberry petit fours and the other will get whipped cream and pineapples because what are we even doing here if we can't have both?

Same. And you know how tight a rein I kept on my feed. I started to resent how much work it took to massage the algorithm for stuff that *I didn't even ask for*. I hardly got any AI slop, but I knew it was coming, and that was one of the last straws.

YES. I do wonder, though, how much of the fallout is because what they said was horrible vs them being caught saying it. Makes a difference in the effectiveness of the consequences.

The French toast @aureanator.bsky.social grew up with was savory and spicy. When it became a frequent flyer in our breakfast rotation, we started calling it eggy bread to differentiate it from the sweet stuff that was also in our breakfast rotation.

Just as curry goat and goat curry denote two entirely different dishes in our house, so too do French toast and eggy bread.

Curry goat: Caribbean dish
Goat curry: Indian dish
French toast: sweet, served w syrup or fruit

When I listen to Canadian political commentators talk about dealings between Mark Carney & Donald Trump, it both irks me & drives me nuts that we're forced to take such a foolish & disgusting man seriously bc of the danger he poses. Trump should be in prison eating his meals through a straw, FFS.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🇨🇦 We did our annual neighborhood Friendsgiving potluck with our next door neighbor on Saturday, so today is reserved for soaking fruits for black cake and starting the eggnog to age for solstice night. I'm starting from zero this year, so the shopping list is wild. 🍷🥃

Three year olds are just tiny agents of chaos trying as hard as they can to figure it all out, and with each successive 3 year old (this is my third) I appreciate more and more how much work this is for them. Have all the naps and snacks, kiddo. You deserve them.

i'm always simultaneously relieved and disappointed when @hcrichardson.bsky.social posts a picture instead a newsletter. each newsletter is a precious resource that represents an amazing amount of work that is only a fraction of what she does with her time, but yes please, also get your rest!
