Senile old bully.
Last night @adamsmith.house.gov made an interesting argument, that undergirding Trump’s foreign policy is a 19thC belief in “spheres of influence,” & this is Trump asserting control over the Americas. Could be, but I suspect it’s also staff giving the senile old man amusements to keep him occupied
It's great that reporting on the double tap has spotlighted the abject criminality of this Administration.

But don't forget: Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans, and the men killed were not combatants.

The first strike was every bit as illegal as the second.

This is fundamentally the wrong way to deal with drug problems.

The campaign is built on lies.
The White House's lies about the illegal Caribbean boat strikes are so obvious and about such serious matters that they're floundering.

As @gregsargent.bsky.social and @jenrubin.bsky.social explain, specific strikes are criminal, but even more so, the entire campaign is blatantly illegal and wrong.
Crucial point from @jenrubin.bsky.social: The leaks about the bombings show there's a ton of deep consternation inside the military and civilian leadership about what's happening. And that can only get worse.

On the pod Jen is so illuminating on this scandal:

This young woman has lived in America since she was 7.

On her way to visit family for Thanksgiving, she was abruptly detained, shackled, and deported to Honduras. It's not even clear if she had a deportation order.

This isn't going after criminals. It makes no one safer.

If misguided officials misinterpreted my extremely clear orders to kill everyone by killing everybody that is obviously on them.
The problem with running with "Hegseth didn't do this" is that Hegseth has spent the last year loudly proclaiming "I am going to do exactly this" at every opportunity.

Feeling this again. So often there’s a social media post like “Person X said thing Y and I’m super pissed” and when you dig down they said Z, not Y, and Z wouldn’t have made me mad. But now that I’m already mad about Y, even if I acknowledge it wasn’t right, I’ve got to justify why Z is just as bad.
Side note: normalize admitting when you were wrong. Keeps you honest and helps keep you from getting too far out over your skis.

It's not just that the White House won't commemorate World AIDS Day.

It's that Trump has needlessly decimated lifesaving HIV/AIDS research. It's that his administration has cut off resources to help eradicate this disease around the world.

Hurting people and helping no one.

Disaster relief has been handled more or less efficiently under different administrations.

And funded at different levels.

Generally, Democratic administrations are more competent and generous.

But, only Trump and his Republican helpers in Congress have made it this partisan and difficult.
Michiganders are facing higher costs and the Trump Admin’s denial of disaster relief is now driving up their electricity prices even more.

Federal assistance eases the burden on communities when disasters strike. These denials are a betrayal to Michiganders who need help.

Any time Republicans talk about going back to "high-risk pools", what they really mean is effectively kicking millions of people with pre-existing conditions off their health insurance.

Here’s how it works:
