Recovery teams will continue to visit homes and businesses this weekend impacted by the severe flooding that took place July 25 - 28. These quick in-person reviews of the damage could help get federal recovery assistance.

The Air Quality Alert for Chicago has been extended through Saturday night, August 2nd. Reduce time outside and check on family, neighbors, seniors and vulnerable residents. If needed, you can request a well-being check by contacting 3-1-1 or if it's a medical emergency, call 9-1-1.

The City of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management & Communications (OEMC) is reviewing calls for service into 3-1-1 from the flash flooding event that occurred between Friday, July 25 and Monday, July 28.

Heat and humidity will begin to build from the west on Tuesday, with dangerous heat expected Wednesday through Thursday. While thunderstorms are expected to bring relief from the heat by late Friday, a slower arrival will mean continued heat into Friday.

Today marks 30 years since the deadly 1995 Heat Wave! Since then, Chicago agencies, including OEMC have worked hand-in-hand to make sure something like that never happens again.

Cooling Centers are open if you need to cool off. In response to this weekend's heat wave, the Garfield Community Service Center at 10 S. Kedzie will open as Cooling Center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
With high temperatures today and extreme heat and humidity forecast for the weekend and early next week, OEMC and Ironheart want to share tips to beat the heat and stay safe.
