The Planning and Infrastructure Bill will be disastrous for nature AND for our communities. We condemn it, and developments like this proposed for Adlington. We need safe, warm, affordable homes for everyone, not luxury houses making super-profits for house-builders.

Press release from John Knight, local Green Party Campaigner in Macclesfield: I, and the Green Party, stand against the plans of Keir Starmer’s Labour government to build up to 20,000 homes in Adlington. We do not need to be giving Labour's friends in the big building companies – who already make more than 30% profit on their developments – even more opportunities to exploit us.

When I’m talking in our communities, I’m being asked why are these luxury houses planned for green fields sites, when they’re completely unaffordable for our children? What’s happened to our Social Housing? It’s time that our politicians considered us, not the corporate fat cats.

You may be surprised to hear that here is no need for more housing to be planned here. Yes, there are people homeless, and the shortage of affordable and social housing means that many people will go to sleep tonight afraid that they may be losing their home tomorrow. But this does not mean we need more greenfield sites to be blighted with planning permission. There is already permission granted for over 20,000 homes in Cheshire East which have yet to be built, and there are still thousands of empty houses. There are town centres which need revitalising with new homes on disused brownfield sites.

Local MP Tim Roca may say that he too is against this proposal, but it’s his government proposing it, and he voted for the Planning and Infrastructure Bill which will stop us deciding here whether it goes ahead. Local decisions need to be made by local people, who care about their environment and local communities, like those of us who have campaigned, and continue the fight to save Danes Moss. I, and local people in my community, do not support this plan.

I have not only signed up to @TheGreenParty but I also went out delivering leaflets (yes on a Sunday).
I meet some very beautiful people, along with the occasional spider web. Absolutely shattered but definitely well worth it...

At our meeting this evening, we took time to echo Zack's words: we stand with the Jewish community today across the country and particularly with local Jewish friends and families who are understandably shaken and grieving on this holy day.
