I spent 20 minutes trying to force myself not to write a post that would have gotten me a visit from the FBI. The fact that the media has taken the lessons of 2020 and 2024 to be "We didn't hate Dems enough and didn't give Trump enough benefit of the doubt!" absolutely underscores just how much of Dems' 'messaging' problem simply doesn't rest with the Dems themselves.

I was on board with the Covid stimulus checks, the economy was going to crater and we had to do something, BUT - it destroyed politics in a way that I did not forsee happening.

Thinking about this more, I think all these people are all in a spiritual crisis. They have all the money in the world, and when they find out it doesn’t bring them what they want they think someone is preventing it, instead of realizing money won’t get them what they want.
Musk, Thiel, Trump, the founder of Overstock - a non trivial portion of why the US (and “the west” more broadly) feels like it’s backsliding is that the people with all the money are slowly going crazy.
