I'd be more sympathetic to Chewie if Solo hadn't made their meeting so inconsequential. Han helped Chewie out of a jam, but that was 40 years ago. Chewie's enabling Han's bad decisions and the only reason why is that they go way back, and you'd hope Han's oldest, truest friend *wouldn't* enable him.
And this even parallels the thing George Lucas was trying to do with the first six films, where the OT stars Luke and the PT kinda-mostly stars Obi-Wan but the whole thing is about Anakin's fall and redemption. The components of a good Star Wars are in there, but they had no plan and it shows.
They were making it up as they went, so it's only in retrospect that it's clear that the sequel trilogy is from Rey's point of view but about Kylo, and that pretty much all the time spent on Rey's mysterious parentage that never mattered would've been better spent on Kylo's backstory/motivations.
The prequels were rescued by expanded content, and I am cautiously optimistic that the same might happen to the sequels.
There is one part of the Outer Rim that can stand up to the industrial capacity of the Core, and the Clone Wars was the first time in a while that the Tion Cluster decided to stop being friends with Coruscant. It never mattered what Tattooine thought of the Republic.
I think you could probably spin this as a Dragonlance reboot, but I don't know if there's anyone left still squeeing for Raistlin.

I wasn't recording numbers nearly closely enough to be sure, but off the top of my head, the first No Kings protest was the turning point on this.

I wanna see wall-to-wall coverage of kids holding clever homemade signs. My 11-year-old finished hers last night, and she's excited and ready to go.
AI vs AI Chess games are a thing you can watch whenever on chess.com, and no one really gives a shit, but Gotham Chess got like a million views playing against a bot two months ago. As long as human art is at all distinguishable from AI generation, the human will be more valuable because it is rare.

So when you said "this sounds stupid," you meant the word choice, not the idea being described. The tone. You had objections about tone that you wanted someone else to change. A sort of policing of the tone, if you will.

What else did you think "tone policing" meant?
You didn't say that. Your objection was that it's "asinine" to refer to a specific process as "depletion."
So your actual objection is tone policing, and everything about throwing poison in wells was unrelated.
What I said is that the amount of people who support Trump has gone up and down as measured by election results. Even if you think all of those changes were driven purely by mortality, why would you assume everyone else thinks the same thing? That's not a common belief.
Why would your assumption be that "deplete popularity" can only mean "literally murder people who like something?"

But people do think Republicans are bad at healthcare in the same evidence-resistant way they think Republicans are good at the economy, and will attribute bad healthcare to them, yes.
I really doubt that the reason why the Dems got less votes in 2024 than in 2020 is because millions of people all died and no one noticed vastly disproportionate fatalities between Dem voters and Rep voters. People can and do change their minds about whether to vote and even who to vote for.
There is a specific quantity of people who like Trump enough to support him. That is unambiguously a finite resource. That specific quantity has gone up and down in measurable ways during elections, so it is unambiguously possible for that resource to be depleted.
No, the strategy is that whatever amount of popularity Trump has is a resource we should seek to deplete, in combination with other strategic goals.
Making the Trump regime sufficiently unpopular to sink them in elections and make the country ungovernable if they try to suspend them. The strategy here is not vague, and if you don't like it as a strategy, then object to that. Stop invoking my well-being as the reason for your objection.
If your objection is "this won't actually work," then say that instead.
I am a blue-aligned civilian in a red state and I am telling you that as long as you are taking meaningful and effective action against my corrupt government, I do not care if you catch me in the blast radius. I'll figure something out. Stop surrendering to fascists.
