Anita Hill, Harleen Singh, Carmel Ohman, and I are now editing a volume based on our Mellon Sawyer Seminar on gender-based violence and the abiding fiction that it is a natural and inevitable facet of the family, state, and nation, to envision a future without it.

Trump thought he could use the government shutdown he created to purge our federal workforce.

The law says otherwise.

This is a victory for our dedicated federal workers & we won’t stop until every federal worker unjustly fired by this Administration has been reinstated.
JUST IN: A federal judge has indefinitely blocked President Trump’s efforts to lay off thousands of federal employees amid the government shutdown.

A memorable celebration of Maria Pinto’s gorgeous debut book, Fearless, Sleepless, Deathless: What Fungi Taught Me About Nourishment, Poison, Ecology, Hidden Histories, Zombies, and Black Survival. Note Hurricane Melissa overJamaica (Pinto’s country of origin) under the title in the PPT.
Tomorrow! Mario Pinto will discuss her new book, which has the best title of all time: Fearless, Sleepless, Deathless: What Fungi Taught Me About Nourishment, Poison, Ecology, Hidden Histories, Zombies, and Black Survival.” #mushrooms #blacksurvival
Menstrual blood, previously viewed as useless waste, is now being used by femtechs as “an underexplored sample source” with clinical potential to diagnose conditions from endometriosis to cancers.
Happy birthday!! Looks like an incredible album.
Toni Shapiro-Phim & I had the pleasure of taking our students to the #ICA for an engaging guided tour of “The Indigenous Present” exhibition, which includes works by 15 artists who use “strategies of abstraction to represent personal and collective narratives.”

He really really cares about veterans.
The forecasts for Jamaica and Haiti are terrifying. Thinking of my friends and families of my colleagues and students who are facing Hurricane Melissa.😢
This evening's update from the U.S. National Hurricane Center on #Melissa is ominous, and explicitly mentions: "catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding...extensive infrastructural damage...and potentially prolonged isolation of communities" in both Jamaica & Haiti.

If you’re a praying, spiritual, ritual or witchy type, do your thing for Jamaica. They’re saying it could be the worse hurricane in 35 years with 15-25 inches of rain between Saturday and Monday. I’ll never get used to this worried waiting from afar.

“You teach me too. To use pine roots to bring luck. Or sassafras roots for measles. […] to bring up rapunzel-the stems that only rise from soil fed with our blood. Medicine-the good and the bad of it-is a gift.” christibelcourt.com’s roots & flowers & If The Dead Belong Here are perfect together.
@carsonfaust.bsky.social discussed how horror allows Indigenous writers to speak their truths, confront their monsters, & survive embodied fears that manifest as sleep paralysis & night terrors. “It’s not escapism. It’s documentation. It’s testimony. It is ceremony disguised as a ghost story.”
As SNAP benefits are set to expire, a reminder of Sodom's real sin: "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom; pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy" (Ezek. 16:49). Pirkei Eliezer 25
I feel like Forrest Gump. Exactly 8 years ago, I met @kimberlecrenshaw.bsky.social in person when she was awarded the Joseph B. And Toby Gittler Prize at Brandeis. Every year I teach her work in WGS5a, I wax eloquent about this moment 😍
What is an academic?
Someone who reaches their desk promptly each morning. In the middle of the desk they find a molehill. By the time they

So how much have your insurance premiums gone up for next year? Ours went up 20.5%, and faculty will shoulder 10% of this increase. I worry especially about our junior faculty who will find this additional burden very onerous on top of inflation and tariffs.😢
