Do you not realize that over 40% of men in the US own firearms? Do you know how many of those men have stopped violence with those guns? At least 10x your statistics.
Considering how many men have firearms they seem to have great control over their emotion/rage.
The White House has been completely gutted and rebuilt before, during Truman renovations. The East Wing was also completely rebuilt 1942, so it's relatively new. Not that it helps with the emotional symbolism.
