Flashback to September 2010 . . . Amur tiger Uri at Nordens Ark wildlife park in Sweden. Over the years I took more than 400 pictures of this magnificent boy, who was born at Linton Zoo in Cambridgeshire, UK. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 14.

Handsome snow leopard Shen at Norfolk’s Banham Zoo.

As few as 4,000 snow leopards are believe to survive in the wild and the species is classified on the IUCN Red List as Vulnerable.

Their bold stripes and dark orange coats distinguish Sumatran tigers from other subspecies. Fewer than 400 remain in the wild and with numbers falling, the Sumatran tiger is listed as Critically Endangered.

One of the smallest surviving tiger subspecies, Sumatran tigers live on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This impressive male, just two years old, is called Raja. He lives at Norfolk’s Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens.

Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens’ new boy, Sumatran tiger Raja, arrived from Frankfurt zoo three weeks ago. His name means ‘King’ in Hindi. He is due to be joined by a female from Berlin later in the year.
