I think part of the issue is a lot of peeps think because they pay for art, they're purchasing the rights to it so they can do whatever they want with it, which isn't always the case

It's kinda like buying a Disney movie on dvd, & saying you own the rights to the actual movie since you own the dvd.

I'm also finding some new artists which makes it even better!

We're in a day & age where art is underappreciated more than ever, so seeing people still creating/doing their passions is like watching a fire burn in others! I want nothing more than to fan those flames so their passion never burns out

I'm slowly but surely finding all the artists I've followed from various other platforms on bluesky.

Part of it is fun because it's like discovering them for the first time all over again, and another part is just healing for the soul because my timeline can be filled with art again.

What's something that's helped you push through on your art journey?

For me, it's keeping a folder of all the nice things people have said about my art. When I doubt myself or it feels like it's not worth continuing because no one sees it - I pull those out to remind myself it's worth it and valued

Friendly reminder this scam is still going around & they use fear of being reported to get you to add them on a secondary platform.

Bluesky generates all profiles with similar usernames even if there are minor differences when you search for it - if it's not appearing, it likely doesn't exist.

User messaging my account that is a classic "I accidentally reported your account" scam, in which the user tries to get you to add them on a secondary platform to show "proof" of impersonation - however if you ask for the username or try to look for yourself, they refuse to give you the username or link to the impersonator account and say it's because your account appears first.

Said user immediately blocked me after I addressed this is likely a scam and if it's not that I'd handle it with the bluesky team if need be and thanked them for their time.

Leads to a lot of generalized opinions/expectations of how fast an artist should move regardless of the impact of things like disability, other jobs, etc.

Social media has done good & bad things for art, but one of the worst imho was the further devaluation of art, artists, and the artistic process

I think social media plays a large part, a lot of art is looked at as "content" now, which means a lot of the process and time that it takes to make a single piece is heavily devalued. Because of that, plus a general misunderstanding of the artistic process and/or how long the process can take

Absolute same!

Some of my favorite plushies had dynamic hard plastic eyes that really gave them a different look/vibe! I miss that so much... I also just miss the longer fur textures, which you don't see as often anymore.

I think I remember seeing something years ago that was put out that there was a massive choking hazard because of the eyes (& nose if the nose was also hard plastic); maybe in changing that they changed the fur texture because embroidered eyes didn't stand out as well?

Miss the old style tho....

My partner has been a long-time user of gimp, predominantly for photo editing! They love it and swear by it, especially since it's free and closely resembles a lot of similarities to Photoshop.

Saw someone say, “Stop hoarding books, we don’t need paper books anyway” and I can’t express how misguided this is. Online libraries disappear, digital books can be altered, and with Big Tech seeking to destroy history and literacy, print media has never been more essential.
