I recently stepped down as an AE at a Springer:Nature journal for reasons similar to o the JHE board (where I also once served). Time to stop allowing ourselves to be exploited for corporate profit. We can do everything without them.

Mayan canals used for fish harvesting. Agriculture is often credited for the rise of civilization and there's no doubt it's influence. However, harvesting aquatic resources could have the same sort of impact especially when you're modifying the landscape to do it at large scale.
