Most of us have condemned our political adversaries in the name of righteousness falling into the trap – often w/out thinking about it – of acting as if our intended moral ends justify our means. We easily excuse ourselves from the humility the tax collector embodied in his encounter with Jesus. 4/9

As the government shutdown disrupts benefits, food banks are already feeling the strain — and families, especially those with young children, are at risk of going hungry.

Children in food-insecure households are 90% more likely to be in fair or poor health and 30% more likely to be hospitalized. Across our nation, more than 41 million people, including 15 million children, depend on SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) for daily meals.
