Like, what possible harm could come from holding a lighter to a square centimeter of dirt?

Start a wild fire? Possible but highly unlikely. You wouldn't use your laser weed blaster in a grass field.

Why do you think there's no data? I found a study that said it's just as effective as herbicide with the benefit of not dumping poison on your food.
Also the benefit of not having to buy herbicide every year which means you're not also paying for the pollution from its manufacturer or transport.

If it's being done, I'd assume that already happened? Without even googling, what could be the downside? Ash is carbon, calcium, and phosphorous, all of that is plant food.
