Peter and Daniel hate surprises. Peter needs his routine to stay focused and calm. Daniel usually finds out about surprises, so they end up not being fun. Unless we're talking about gifts. Then they find it offensive to know what it is beforehand.
Ryan loves being surprised and surprising others.

The twins would 1000x rather stay home in house wear.
Peter is often unaware of dress codes, so even if he does go to a fancy event, he'll just dress as he always does. There's a scene like that on the WIP.

Daniel and Peter would do a good job overall. They'd try to keep everything clean so they wouldn't have the work of cleaning it up.
Maybe Daniel would be messier, but Peter is there to keep things in place.

"Take the picture." He ordered.
I obeyed, swallowing the urge to complain that they preferred a boring concrete wall to using the rainbow as a backdrop. Dan positioned himself in front of the camera, slightly tense, his hands in his pockets as if he realized he didn't know what to do with them. Peter joined him next, running his hand through his wavy hair, that melancholy reminder of what Dan's natural hairstyle might have been if protocol hadn't imposed a buzz cut on him. He took a step towards his brother, which was enough to soften his posture. He placed a hand on his shoulder, giving the frame the naturalness it lacked.
I pretended to test the best composition on my phone screen, but in reality, I was studying them. The complicity between the two had a tragic flavor, or perhaps I was reading too much between the lines. Dan's words continued to echo inside me. I felt a knot in my stomach imagining that this could simultaneously be the first and last happy, relaxed photo of the two of them for a long time.

“You know that feeling when you’re standing somewhere really high and look down? That vertigo mixed with a morbid curiosity that keeps your eyes glued to the ground below?” I looked at Dan, who didn’t seem to be listening to me at all. “The closer I get to you, the more aware I am of my fear of heights. And yet, I step right up to the edge of the skyscraper and look down. I want to see the world from above. It helps me realize how small my problems are when put into perspective.”
“I was about to make the mandatory joke about Jona, but I think you’ve already crossed the line.” Dan went back to his rigid posture. “Using me to put your stress in perspective? Fuck off.”
“I don’t want to use you. I want to understand you.”
“You want to get fucked. Seriously. All I ever see is you hurting yourself in the process.” He buried his face in his hands and muttered. “Why do I only surround myself with people who harm themselves?”
“As if you don’t do the same.”

“Was it your father who bought Pantaloon?” Kraus asked, leaning his body slightly toward me.
“Y-yes.” I swallowed hard.
“He’s involved in the equestrian world as well?”
I knew where the conversation was headed. I didn’t pay attention to what my grandfather answered, once he realized there was no point in waiting for a reply from me. My heart weighed heavy in my chest, filling my ears until nothing they said could reach me. I fixed my gaze on the arena before us. The white Range Rover parked by a pair of obstacles blinded me.
“My condolences.” The stiffness of his accent only made the words sound harsher.
It had been so long since I’d heard that. I don’t even know what one is supposed to say back anymore. I nodded. A low-key movement that said nothing of the dark cloud they’d just blown over me.

“Come on, love!” Vanessa shouted, unafraid of throwing him off balance.
Suddenly, the jump looked twice as high. Kris seemed to soar in slow motion before my eyes, the loose stirrup catching the sunlight. An almost horizontal leap. I imagined myself there, leaning over the mare’s neck, looking down at the ground below. A shiver ran through me. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to mentally get off that horse. That’s not me up there. The ground trembled, reminding me my feet were still firmly planted. Another clean jump.
In a long, stretching gallop, they moved on toward the final fences. I glanced at the timer. It seemed impossible to beat the record, but nothing was lost yet. A break in the rhythm of hooves. Two strides. Another pause. Applause between strides. Another pause. The green-and-white triple was already behind them. Before the applause came a shared sigh of relief.
I looked at the clock. 72.61 seconds. An excellent time, but 0.2 seconds too long to dethrone Amanda.

Spring because nothing ever happens during spring.
Autumn has November, the worst month of the year. Winter has death. Summer has heat and revisiting places and memories.

Lost in the blur

"Where do you want to go?" He asked me when we stopped at the intersection with the road that borders the neighborhood.
"Y-you're the one who invited me. Besides, you're the one driving." I passed him the responsibility of deciding. "It's not like I know what I'm doing in a car alone with you after all this time."
"You're free to get out. Just don't do it while we're rolling."
We set off again with a roar disproportionate to the acceleration. Dan decided to turn left, which meant we were going to stop in the city center.
I was distracted by the view out the window. The continuous dark gray of the road transformed into an abstract trail as we moved, interrupted now and then by white blurs. The rest were streets monotonously delineated by brick facades, occasionally illuminated by flickering signs. Only further ahead would the surroundings gain a more lively and colorful atmosphere.

Peter would have an equestrian podcast about horses, horse care, liberty work, horse assisted therapy.

He'd take it seriously, but keep the tone relaxed. And he'd most likely find someone to host as he hates speaking in public. Ryan probably.

Leaning against this same railing was our father, still in uniform, but with a radiant smile. He bent down as soon as he saw us. He laughed as he called out to us. We ran to him as if there were no tomorrow and almost knocked him over in the process. That hug was the best thing in the world. It didn't matter if it was raining, if it was cold, if I was tired of asking my brother to relax. Everything was fine.
It seems like a memory from a distant life. That's why I don't blame Peter for getting lost between parallel universes. The more we think about it, the more fictional the past becomes. It was just a dramatic movie we saw, a story we were told.
I ran my hand over the metal of the railing respectfully. The chipped paint made the texture uneven. Time corrodes any evidence of the presence of those who pass through here. But I know he was here.

Vanessa took a sip, letting out an involuntary “ahhh” of satisfaction at the end.
“Didn’t even realize how thirsty I was. You’re an angel.”
I smiled back at her before allowing myself the indulgence of the soda.
As I drank, my eyes scanned the screen. Two more riders before Jonathan.
“So, what’s your verdict?” Vanessa asked between sips. “It’s not every day I have someone next to me I’m not embarrassed to ask stupid questions about this.”
“I’m no expert, tho.” I said, scratching my head. “So far, the leading time looks totally doable for Jonathan as long as everything goes smoothly.”
“Nice. I don’t feel like having to comfort him. He’s can be such a pain when he loses.”
“I know.” I laughed. “For your sake, let’s root for him.”

I leaned against the cabin wall and looked up at the ceiling. I couldn’t stay still. My attention jumped from web to web, all to avoid facing Tam’s crying.
I thought I was here to comfort her.
I took a deep breath and repeated to myself what brought me here.
“Sorry, I’m terrible at this.” I said, then wrapped her in a tight hug.
I ran my hand through her hair, now half undone. It smelled nice, it was soft. I slid one hand down to her back and kept patting her like she was a fluffy little rabbit in my arms. A very scared and sad, but fluffy rabbit. So much that I wanted to squeeze her until she turned into a tiny ball I could keep in my pocket and take home.
“Why are you doing this?” She asked, her voice muffled against my body.
“Because I care about you.”

Peter has a friendly rivalry with his cousin Jonathan. They can't even compete in the same sport as Peter is terrified of horse jumping. But he seeks to reach Jona's level of perfection on other modalities (maybe dressage or liberty work).
It's more of a motivational rivalry.

Their father's death.
It totally shapes how the twins live, especially Peter. He became even more gloomy and pessimistic.
Daniel was dragged by both the loss of his father and almost losing his brother. He became overly protective and closed.

11: The cabin on their grandparents Equestrian Centre. It's a cozy wooden cabin with pillows on the floor to sit on. They'd have privacy and it's a tranquil cozy atmosphere.

I flipped through the magazine until I found the cover story. There he was. A different photo this time, the horse already draped in a purple blanket, the rosette pinned to the bridle. Jonathan wore the gold medal around his neck, smiling broadly, his pale eyebrows almost blending into his skin. He radiated a kind of natural confidence, as if standing on the podium were a genetic trait. Lucky bastard.
Beside it, a wall of text sang praises to the Strider name and its "new generation" with a photo of the same arena entrance I’d walked through before coming into this lobby.
The new generation of Striders. Hereditary talent. The weight of those words pressed down on my shoulders. I couldn’t help but compare myself to him. My own lack of trophies worthy of putting on the display case behind me was proof enough that a last name and a strand of DNA don’t make anyone great. Even if that truth gave me some comfort, it didn’t stop the nagging fear that I was wasting whatever potential I had.
Maybe that’s why Jonathan won’t let me be. Always sending me competition links, always telling me to use my saddle and prove my worth. No matter how hard I try, I can’t ignore that pressure. Not because some magazine insists I should live up to my middle name, but because, deep down, I know I need life goals.

Vincent slowly shook his head. A fucking mimic? The notion was insane. Words from a crazy man. Crazy, if he didn’t see it with his own eyes. What the flying fuck was a mimic doing in a secret room in their gaming retreat? It must’ve been an elaborate animatronic or some shit. A fucking dangerous one, but not a real-life monster disguising as a goddamn chest.
