Congrats to all the people who have postured as intelligent and morally righteous for years but decided that they couldn’t take a stand against genocide or decided to justify and cheer on the massacre of a people for whatever reason. Now they can go back to playing the intellectual in peace.

What we're seeing in Chicago and Portland is straight out of the fascist playbook:
1. Create a violent situation by attacking peaceful protesters.
2. Cite the violence as an excuse to crack down further on the peaceful protesters.
3. Brag about establishing "law and order."

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

He seemed like he wanted to do good things, like reduce gun violence and provide jobs to reduce homelessness. But, he didn't particularly aspire to understand things.

He wanted employers writing people notes explaining why they were out after 9 PM.

He was also weirdly pro-cop.

The third guy wanted to talk politics. He both claimed to be homeless and related extraordinary family wealth. He had internalized many political ideas some Right, some more progressive.

The second guy came to the door wearing a OPRFHS sweatshirt. I was wearing an OPRFHS ball cap. (Forest Park feeds into Proviso East, but lots of OPRFHS grads live in FP.)

He shut me down quickly. So, what motivated him? 🤷‍♂️

The first was shirtless and quite muscular. Later it came out he played football at NIU & is working as a home healthcare worker.

He was a bit vague but clearly didn't have much trust that politics was something he wanted to be connected to.

Went out to get signatures for Tim Thomas (candidate for Democratic Party of Illinois State Central Committee in #IL07) this afternoon. Got sixteen sigs and encountered *three* young Black men disinclined to participate in politics.

1) you are the audience, giving it prompts
2) it produces things roughly shaped like your prompt
3) it is trained to respond with Yes, And
4) it has the factual accuracy of improv
5) it does not understand comedy
