I’m Dug. Living in Metro Detroit I put in 25 years as a page-builder (graphic designer) until the small paper I worked for closed. Now (mostly) retired I’m returning to my surrealist roots, usually working with traditional pen and pencil drawing & polymer clay sculpture

Here is a sampling of my art

A pen and color pencil drawing of a young woman with an oversized head, her red hair gently moved by the wind stands in a black-hulled small ship (based on a Little Tikes tugboat shaped sandbox), holds onto the white cabin with her left hand. There is nobody at the wheel of the ship. In her right is a white bird house that has a brown leather suitcase handle attached to the green roof. Above her head is a blender, the black electric cord curving around like a halo. And around the blender is a swirling cloud of razor blades. The grey sky is overcast, and there are gentle but pronounced swells in the vibrant blue green water. At the bottom right, just below the green blue waterline a circling shark can be seen.

A fairy house made of polymer clay. It appears to be a taller, upside down terra cotta pot with green door trimmed in blue. There is a flat, terracotta awning supported by twigs over the entrance. The 2nd story features half-round green windows, also trimmed in blue. Also visible is a more conventional square green window. Yup! Trimmed in blue!

#inktober2025 14) Trunk. The burial of a woman from Bronze Age Denmark at Borum Eshøj. She was buried in a tree trunk coffin with a panoply of accoutrements from bronze discs & neck/arm rings to a comb , pottery vessel and box. She was in her preserved clothing and even hair remained. #archaeology

There are reinforced corners on the bottom of the trunk. There is a dark shadow to the bottom right. The signature is on the white banding, reading MJC with the date 10/14.

Oh no, we have them up here and they creep me out. Most insects that get into our house I will catch and release out in the yard. Centipedes where ‘KILL KILL KILL’ until I learned that they are (gulp) helpful eating up other insects. Still give me tge heebie jeebies. Ick
