Friend, I’m not arguing.
I understand that you feel a way and are trying to express that feeling to another human.

Problematically, the other human only receives words, never feelings.

It is on you as a speaker to make a clearly true point.

Also, people don’t willingly empathize with the angry.

Implies that the law allows for it, that the social order makes room for it.

If you drop the “can” it becomes something they are doing by force or stealth and escaping the consequences of.

One implies that they are wrong, the other implies that it’s ok and they’re not doing anything wrong.

Do you see the difference I see?

It might just be my understanding of the words, but it concisely reverses certain dynamics
