My stock of the year for 2025 is the health insurer $CI (latest closing price $281.86). They have a reliable, steady business model, that is more predictable than most of their peers. The entire industry has become less cyclical, but $CI is even less cyclical

I think they are spending money like crazy because they are scared

Russell 2000/ S&P 600

To be in the S&P 600 you have to be profitable. Recently, profitability is a liability

Not sure why it's at all contreversial to say that incumbents are better off with the status quo than with big technological changes

I believe AI is a negative for tech companies that make money from ads
- There will be greater competition from new players like OpenAI
- AI is a massive additional cost, even in a world where they keep the same ad dollars they otherwise would have gotten

There are only 2 possible reasons the "ceasefire now" crowd isn't celebrating the ceasefire via Coleman Hughes

- They are more bothered about Trump getting credit than they are about the suffering in Gaza
- They were rooting for Hamas

I know this is a joke but just wanted to remind you there were credit problem in 2000 Worldcom/Enron

So, with luck and determination, we could get to relive the 2007/8 credit crisis and the 2000 dotcom bust at the same time. Don't let the naysayers tell you we can no longer do stuff.

Lay’s is America’s top-selling brand of potato chips. Its maker doesn’t think it has been clear enough to consumers the chips are made with farm-grown potatoes.

One of my muted words didn't allow me to see that post

My follows on both sites are mostly related to finance. I just happen to see their political tweets as well

Pretty amazing that there isn't a single post in my Bluesky feed about the peace deal, while my Twitter feed is 90% filled with Israel/Hamas. The tribalism is insane

A DEI professor at a Canadian university thinks synagogues are fair game. She has since deleted her account. This is what the more educated people in the Free Palestine movement want to do to Jews. Never mind the common man

Bill Clinton got Israel to agree to a two state solution. It has always been the Palestinians that cannot accept the existence of Israel

I would guess the induction stoves the chefs use are extremely expensive. I have had both and prefer gas but never had an expensive induction

If financing GPUs is such a great biz model than why not do it yourself once you can. $ORCL basically added the market cap of OpenAI on the OpenAI deal. It's hard for me to put a large multiple on these earnings because it's essentially a one time financing deal, albeit a multi year financing deal
