Exploring diegetic music — music the characters hear and make — from a galaxy far far away, in movies, TV shows, video games, and theme parks. I'm @jere7my.bsky.social. Spreadsheet of 400+ Star Wars diegetic tracks: bit.ly/cantinasounds

Welcome to the cantina! I've been putting together a continuously evolving spreadsheet of every diegetic music cue and track in Star Wars, from Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes in Chalmun's Cantina to DJ R-3X at Oga's on Batuu — and beyond. Check it out! bit.ly/StarWarsSource

We're celebrating the Shadow Night Festival with the Ewoks on day 164 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. Put on a costume and dance to music by Patrick Gleeson from the episode "The Raich". Looks like Teebo is about to get lucky!

Creating the world of Star Wars Outlaws with my team at Emperia Sound & Music has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career.

Bright suns, travelers! On day 163 of #TheDiegeticShuffle we're listening to "Bright Suns" by Mus Kat and Nalpak (Tamir Muskat & Ori Kaplan), heard in Oga's Cantina and on BSO Radio 401.72. It's got a Bollywood-inspired refrain and a cheerful folky strut. youtu.be/K_lph9XKF3U?...

Happy birthday to @infinata.bsky.social, who is the voice of DJ Palob Godalhi on Black Spire Outpost Radio, BSO 401.72. Here he is reading an old Batuuan ballad for visiting travelers. (Apologies for the wonky audio quality!)

We're playing a game within a game on day 162 of #TheDiegeticShuffle: @codymatthewjohnson.bsky.social's "Rider" is the soundtrack for a vector arcade cabinet in Outlaws. It's got a Knight Rider-esque rhythm track with a melody in a Phrygian (I think) key. youtu.be/OmRTBwL5tXo?...

Blink (your ears?) and you'll miss it—we have a three-second cue from the Voxx Vortex episode of Resistance for day 161 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, casino game source music from Michael Tavera.

Chaka Mater Laka is Jason Mater, an Emmy-nominated LA-based composer and producer who's worked on "Vampirina," "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place," and "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series." He's on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jasonmater/

Let's boogie down in Black Spire Outpost on day 160 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with "Batuu Boogie" by Chaka Mater Laka feat. MW-59. It's a high energy tune with a clearly Muppet vocalist. As DJ Palob Godalhi says, "Wow, I could oscillate to that all day." youtu.be/hrlSr3OZvw4?...

Cody Matthew Johnson talks about his process for "translating" lyrics into an alien language (Myrran?) for the city of Myrra in Star Wars: Outlaws. Very cool stuff—we've come a long way from pulling random tiles from Scrabble and Perquackey for "Lapti Nek"!
codymatthewjohnson.bsky.social
1/3 yea! So Ive talked about this a little bit on podcasts, interviews, and the like, but effectively the hope was to not necessarily use an identifiable existing in-universe language - I didn't want to take players out of the intentional immersionof the cantinas by hiding too many easter ...

That's so much cooler than I anticipated! Thank you!

Trandoshan hunters are psyching themselves up on day 159 of #TheDiegeticShuffle. This trophy room chant from season 3 of the Clone Wars was probably composed by Matthew St. Laurent, Takeshi Furukawa, or David Glen Russell.

Oops, Batuu, not Baatu. 😬

We travel to the planet Biitu (in the same system as Baatu?) on day 158 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, where Artoo finds his way into a droid Shangri-La in Ben Burtt's "The Great Heep". A pop song with electronically altered vocals is playing in the lush robot spa.

…but "In Trouble Again" isn't heard in "The Great Heep". Is this droid spa song their contribution? To my ear the vocal, minus the distortion, does sound a bit like Copeland in "In Trouble Again". If anyone has the skinny, let me know! youtu.be/_Qj3CxXGyCc?...

It's not quite clear (to me) who composed it. Patricia Cullen and Patrick Gleeson are credited as composers for "The Great Heep", but Stewart Copeland (of the Police) and Derek Holt have an "additional music" credit. Copeland and Holt famously composed the "Droids" theme song…

Day 40 of #TheDiegeticShuffle brings one of my favorites: "Chicken in the Pot" from Solo, a Huttese song about being hungry performed on Dryden's yacht by Aurodia Ventafoli and Luleo Primoc (named for Louis Prima, whose voice was on the temp track). youtu.be/8xyk67s5xn4?...

We get the original version of "Chicken in the Pot" from "Solo" on day 157 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, with the high-pitched Luleo Primoc singing with Aurodia Ventafoli. For the film, Ron Howard requested Primoc be a bass, but both versions were released: youtu.be/D6_GuAE8F78?...

"My Star" was written by the late Jeff Moss, who is best known for his work on Sesame Street: he wrote "I Love Trash", "The People in Your Neighborhood", and "Rubber Duckie," and helped create Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.

We travel to Endor for day 156 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, where Charal, Witch of Endor and the first Nightsister, lures young Cindel by singing her parents' lullaby, "My Star." Creepy! Charal is played by Marianne Horine in this clip, but the song is sung by the great Siân Phillips.

"Discobaby" was the one non-Williams track from Droidworks, and it was credited to Clint Bajakian, Jeff Kliment, Michael Land, David Levison, and Larry the O. Bajakian and Land were, along with @petermcconnell.bsky.social, the founding members of the LucasArts sound department.

We've got an obscure track from 1998 for day 155 of #TheDiegeticShuffle: "Discobaby" (aka "Robot Dance Mix") was the music you could play in the DroidWorks video game to make your droid boogie down. It would reappear in 1999's "The Gungan Frontier". youtu.be/nyXzB6USWyc?...
