It’s late, but perhaps not too late. The reason we have sovereign, state governments is to combat tyranny, which was very much the norm when the Constitution was ratified.

States do have immense power but the norm hasn’t been to exercise it. Norms need to change in the face of tyranny.

It’s hardly surprising. We’ve been saying that MAGA is fascist & has been espousing fascist ideology for a decade now.

Anyone under 24 will likely have little memory of an America where fascism wasn’t tolerated or reviled. It’s little wonder they’re more open to outright Nazism.

3. Most states have citizen’s arrest laws. We have to stop waiting for cops to enforce our laws & rely on we the people. This would mean organizing militia groups of ppl w/ military or law enforcement backgrounds that would then arrest feds for breaking state laws.

2. Oregon has clear laws on felony impersonation of a peace officer (ORS 162.367) & explicitly excludes feds as being peace officers (ORS 133.005). Oregon needs to begin enforcing this law & other states need to adopt these laws & language.

Interesting post, Mike, & I haven’t seen anyone else discuss purging local & state police of MAGA till now.

I don’t think you go far enough though.

1. States need to reactivate State Guards & move Nat. Guard personnel & equipment to them. This makes them outside of federalization.

Can’t charge that in IL, though it can be charged in Oregon. There, it’s is felony for feds to identify as “POLICE.”

Illinois could adopt this law if it wanted. Nice thing about Blue states is they can write new laws that criminalize ICE’s actions if they want.

Don’t need to get creative, any federal agent identifying themselves as POLICE in Oregon is committing felony impersonation of a peace officer.

And if they’re being issued uniforms that read POLICE by ICE, that’s a criminal conspiracy.

Every federal agent identifying themselves as “POLICE” is committing felony impersonation of a peace officer per Oregon state law, which explicitly excludes all federal agents from its definition of peace officer.
