The way you actually live forever is to leave a positive legacy. The Romans understood this.

Eddie Bauer stopped being an actual company decades ago. I’m old enough to remember when they had a flagship store in Seattle where you could buy stuff like fishing rods and canoes.

Plus as a Mariner's fan I'd rather see the Mariners win the series in Wrigley then wherever the Brewers play!

Cubs because Illinois and Chicago deserve it right now for standing up to fascists.

No kidding.

The Nazis aren't just at the Federal level. Why any woman who has options would choose to live in a red state is beyond me.

Best thing we ever did was move our family from Texas back to the Pacific Northwest.

Georgia looking shaky too.

And districts really don't want to get sued if they can help it. That generally means hiring outside counsel and running up enormous legal fees unless the district is so large to have in-house counsel.

So even without DOE there is still incentive to obey the law.
camasonian.bsky.social
That's true too.

But in the Obama and Biden Administrations there was actually a Department of Ed that did go out and conduct investigations and take on districts that were dropping the ball. Even if it was at times glacial.

Today parents are all alone unless there are blue state agencies to help
camasonian.bsky.social
None of the laws have changed so conscientious states and school districts will still follow them. They have a SpEd infrastructure. But will likely have less Fed $$$ to implement them.

Less conscientious school districts and states? Perhaps not so much.
camasonian.bsky.social
What it will basically mean is that parents will now have to sue school districts themselves to enforce SpEd laws. There won't be any Department of Ed to step up and do it for them.

So rich parents have a chance, poor ones not so much.
camasonian.bsky.social
Yeah right.

People can judge for themselves who brought the details to this discussion.

Santiago Chile was putting them up all over the place. Some photos I took when I visited last Christmas because I'm a bike infrastructure nerd.

If they can afford it in a big congested metro, so can we.

A perfect illustration of which "lifestyle" actually imposes itself on public space, public safety, and the public purse.

UCLA looks good?

Maybe it really was just the coach?

And that is why the graph you posted above showing MEDIAN farm and non-farm income shows mostly non-farm income. Because it includes all those non-farmers and retired folks living in the country on hobby farms who run a couple cattle or cut some hay for tax purposes.
camasonian.bsky.social
The property tax benefits will be in the thousands of dollars depending on the assessed value of the land. So the tax savings outweigh any cost and hassle of keeping a couple animals on the land.
camasonian.bsky.social
So, for example, in my county you can gain an ag exemption on your property taxes if you have a 5 acre lot and gain at least $200 of ag income per acre for 3 of 5 years. These days you can hit that by running one or two feeder steers and then you become a small farm For tax and UDSA purposes.
camasonian.bsky.social
This means that any doctor, lawyer, or retired couple who live in a rural area on a hobby farm and gain at least $1000 in farm income is included. People do that to gain property tax breaks so they run a few steers, board some horses, or sell some hay. And then get included In the USDA definition.
camasonian.bsky.social
The USDA subdivides farm businesses into 5 categories. The vast majority (88%) are small family farms and 66% of those gain their primary income from sources other than farming. The USDA minimum size is $1,000 in farm income per year.

Building the Deep Sea challenger and diving solo to the bottom of the Mariana’s Trench and then donating his sub to Wood’s Hole is just a completely boss move.

He doesn’t want to know about Portland.

He wants to get the country numb to him mobilizing the military for any reason or no reason at all so that they can do it to suppress votes and steal elections in 2026.
camasonian.bsky.social
It is worse than that because mobilized guard are forced to work for minimum wage or less, depending on rank.

So we are tearing them away from families and higher paying jobs and shipping them to DC at a cost of over $200 million to pick up litter for minimum wage or less.
