TIL about gated reverb

How a recording-studio mishap shaped '80s music
Warning: This is an unapologetic ode to gated reverb drums Here's a Spotify playlist of some of the best gated reverb songs: http://spoti.fi/2vH7ZZL Over the past few years a general nostalgia for the 1980s has infiltrated music, film, and television. I deeply love those gated reverb drums of the '80s - you know that punchy percussive sound popularized by Phil Collins and Prince? So for my second episode of Vox Pop’s Earworm I spoke with two Berklee College of Music professors, Susan Rogers and Prince Charles Alexander, to figure out just how that sound came to be, what makes it so damn punchy, and why it’s back.  Correction: At 2:01, a previous version of the video mistakenly said the noise gate only lets frequencies above a certain threshold pass through. We should’ve said “amplitudes” instead of “frequencies.” The error has been rectified. At 3:45 we noted that plate reverb boxes were made using aluminum. In fact, they were usually made of steel. Finally tried the salted caramel Twix from the import candy store. It seems UK sweet tooth prefer a tackier caramel than North Americans. I'll stick to my regular Twix!

It always makes me sad to unfollow an artist promoting hate. I can't be there for their art *and* their shitty opinions :S

We started watching My Daemon on Netflix. We thought it'd be a cutesy show about a little boy and his monster, but man CW for monster abuse!

Apparently The Midnight Club has a lot of jump scares, but this is why I craft while watching TV :D

The Haunting of Hill House was incredible! I thought Mike Flanagan shows would be gory horror series but now I know they're a little scary, well-written and very suspenseful.

LOL me twice a year when people complain about why parts of the city smell like a barn :D
Anyone who uncritically valorizes small town, rural living should come out and take a deep breath on "manuring the fields" day, which, for your information, is today around these parts

I miss pre-algorithmic Internet--it used to be a lot less about the likes.
