I graduated from high school in 2006. I only remember one major school shooting when I was in K-12 education. The Columbine shooting in 1999. I moved to Virginia in 1997. After Columbine, the next school shooting was Virginia Tech in 2007. We knew then that loose gun laws in Virginia were the issue.

It is who we are, and until we make changes by enacting basic gun control measures, this is the sacrifice that we willingly make. Do not pretend that the myth of American exceptionalism is real. We could do better, but we are not.

Just as a follow up to my prior post about Charlie Kirk's death, a lot of people are saying that political violence is "not who we are". Well, while I agree that it is not what we should be, I think that anyone who says that is ignoring our entire history in the US. We were founded in blood.
