I've only been here since 2007 and that's when I got into politics. I missed a lot of years and had no clue what Alberta was like.
calgaryoccupy.bsky.social
Except she'd have them pardoned if she could.

The media is just breaking it.
calgaryoccupy.bsky.social
Yes, but lots of us had ignorant parents. I can tell you I'm nothing like my parents. My maternal family is quite religious. I broke away from that when I was 12 years old. They are kind-hearted people, though. I was raised by a stepfather and he was very rascist.

Exactly. And the sme with this. How long have we known? archive.ph/AV1HD

~This is not really news to many.

Finally, the media catches up, and now many others will know what we've known for more than a year.

What's it going to take for this government to fall?

How long are her supporters or MLAs going to allow this corruption to continue?

5 Manipulation Tactics Premier Danielle Smith Uses
1. Victimhood Framing
She paints Alberta as a victim of Ottawa - saying billions are taken, jobs are lost, and opportunities are stolen.
> Why it's manipulative: It makes people feel attacked, even when the situation is more complex. It turns federal policies into personal betrayals, which increases anger and fear.
2. Scapegoating the Federal Government
She blames almost every problem - economy, jobs, investment, inflation - on Ottawa,
> Why it's manipulative: It simplifies complex issues and deflects attention from what her own government could be doing better. It makes one easy enemy, the feds.
3. Us vs. Them Language
She divides Canadians into good Albertans vs. out-of-touch eastern elites, freedom-loving citizens vs, interfering bureaucrats.
> Why it's manipulative: It creates tribal loyalty, making people suspicious of outsiders or those who disagree. It makes unity look like weakness and division look like a strength.
4. Emotional Extremes
She uses strong emotional words like 'attacks', 'crippling , 'ravaged,' and 'hostile.
> Why it's manipulative: This ramps up fear and urgency, When people are scared or angry, they stop questioning - and follow the strongest voice in the room.
5. Pretending to Be the Only Reasonable Voice
She says she respects both separatists and federalists and just wants "a fair deal." She seems moderate - while planting radical ideas (like separation) as "understandable."
> Why it's manipulative: It disguises hardline rhetoric as balanced. It allows her to push extreme positions without taking full responsibility.
These tactics appeared in Danielle Smith's May 5th speech to Albertans.

Opinion | Let’s drop the phoney Alberta versus Canada nonsense. The province has met the enemy — and it is them
During the so-called decade of federal ‘attacks on oil,’ Alberta oil giants set records for production and profits, writes Jim Stanford. So why is the average Albertan not getting their cut?

Great article.

When I ask other Albertans why Norway has a 1.75 trillion $ sovereign fund while we only have a few billion, the response is that we had to pay huge equalization payments to the rest of Canada.

No. The money went to corporations in the US, with the blessing of conservatives.
