“I have never felt so unwelcome in my home town since your party came here.”

This response to Reforms candidate in Caerffili was the most telling part of tonight’s BBC debate.

@walesgreenparty.bsky.social will always stand up for our communities not try to divide them with hatred.

"Covering a war means going to places torn by chaos, destruction and death... It means trying to find the truth in a sandstorm of propaganda" - the late Marie Colvin.

Truth is the cornerstone of justice. Without it we can't start to hold those responsible to account. Let journalists into Gaza.
The Rafah crossing is expected to re-open.

Alongside the desperately needed aid, journalists must be allowed into Gaza.

Over 200 journalists have been killed in Gaza - but the crimes of the Israeli government and military must not go undocumented.

Let the journalists in.

Closing statement:
We need hope. Green Party are the new kid on the block, our membership is growing.
Gareth Hughes asks why we can’t look after the poorest in our society? 5th richest country in the world.
Labour candidate very earnestly distancing himself from his own party there. He’s not talking about them, he’s talking about himself.
Fourth Question: Labour has been in power for 25 years, broken promise after broken promise… how would your party restore trust?
Gareth Hughes calling out the parties using immigration as a diversion.
Third question: “do you think immigration is an issue for Caerphilly?”
Nathan Gill has been brought up. The Reform candidate is looking uncomfortable.
Reform’s answer is ‘yes’ and they are challenged on the data - one of the lowest numbers in the UK. Reform have made immigration the lynchpin of their entire campaign.
Third question: “do you think immigration is an issue for Caerphilly?”
Gareth Hughes challenges Reform on hypocrisy
Second question now comes from a hospital worker about the NHS. What would you do to improve access to GPs and bring down waiting lists.
Gareth Potter (Conservatives) challenged on whether they should be taking responsibiity for over a decade ir austerity - great question!
Labour - and to some extent Plaid - are in a difficult position here, claimng they will save the libraries whilst being the government closing them. Plaid came scrutiny and managing budgets better is the answer. Greens the only response to offer some hope with a tax on the very wealthiest.
Gareth Hughes asks ‘[why aren’t we taxing the people with the broadest shoulders.]’ It’s already a fiery start to the debate.
The BBC debate is just starting and the first question is from a worried father, about the closure of local libraries.
