it would be so easy to reduce him to just “play video game. no thoughts. (video game bad)” but their adaption made his character FAR more interesting by making him incredibly smart & tech savvy, which perfectly sets up his conflict with Wonka + his eventual downfall. really amazing character

every day i thank Burton and John August for making Mike Teavee 2005 an emo techno-nerd and not the skateboarding “no thoughts head empty” archetype that Scott Frank made him in the unproduced 2001 script
