Update: 24 people from 2 floating homes in Kwigillingok were airlifted and rescued Sunday, according to a spokesperson with Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and transported to the airport.
No reported injuries or confirmed deaths in Kipnuk or Kwig.

All I have to say is…if I was leader of the House or Senate, starting 48 hours before any shutdown, no one would be going home until a spending bill was passed and signed into law. Also, all of them should be fined $5,000 a day during the duration of a shutdown.
Though technically you could argue 4 of them are due to vacancies…Utqiagvik I don’t count because, while the WSO is vacant, WSO employees don’t do anything upper air related there anymore.

Hiked up to Chester Lake this afternoon to check on the weather station and swap out the pipe-to-pipe clamps holding it in place for some heavier duty clamps before tomorrow’s big storm. The station has been up for 15 days and the record high wind gust for it is already 95 mph.
