HBD, Em. Cliff Gorman, who played Emory so exquisitely in "The Boys in the Band," was BOTD in 1936 & died in 2002. I tear up when I recall the story of how Gorman & his wife took co-star Robert La Tourneaux, the Cowboy, into their home & took care of him when he was dying of AIDS

Serbian master filmmaker Dusan Makavejev was BOTD in 1932 and died in 2019 at the age of 86. His movie "WR: Mysteries of the Organism" (1971) had a profound effect on me when I saw it as a film student, and my movie"The Raspberry Reich" (2004) is essentially my homage to it

Hugely influential English pansexual occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, pagan & mountaineer Aleister "Do What Thou Wilt" Crowley, aka The Great Beast, was BOTD in 1875 & died in 1947 at 72. He was openly bisexual & used sex magick in his occult practices

It was based on a best-selling book of the same name by Judith Rossner based on the January 2, 1973, murder of Roseann Quinn, a 28-year-old New York schoolteacher, who led a so-called double life frequenting singles bars where she picked up men.

RIP fellow Jan Cap Diane Keaton, dead at 79. I'm sad even though I really haven't liked a movie of hers since Beatty's "Reds" (1981). But her 70's movies had a huge influence on me as a teen, particularly "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" & her Woody Allen movies

LaBruce writes a love letter to the film, featuring a defining performance by Diane Keaton, which prompted his teenage sexual awakening.

HBD hot actor & extremely nice guy Brandon Flynn, BOTD in 1993, turning 32 today. Best known for such shows as "Hellraiser," "True Detective," "13 Reasons Why" & "Manhunt," he's developing an exciting movie project that I can't really talk about! I snapped the photo on the left

Luke Perry, who played sexy Dylan on the OG Beverly Hills 90210 w/ Jason Priestley & the late Shannen Doherty, was BOTD in 1966 & died of a massive stroke in 2019 at 52. He was immortalized in the song "Luke Perry's Feet" by Smoke which I used 4 the soundtrack of "Hustler White"

Gay actor Frederick Combs, remembered fondly for playing Donald in both the original Broadway production of "The Boys in the Band" & in William Friedkin's 1970 film adaptation, was BOTD in 1935 & died of AIDS in 1992 at 56, one of five of the original cast felled by the Mrs. AIDS

Ambiguously lesbian USA First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was BOTD in 1884 & died in 1962 at 78. According 2 letters of hers discovered in 1978, she had a passionate affair w/ charming, hard-living butch reporter Lorena Hickok, the sapphic scribe assigned to cover her for the NY Times

Don't get me started on bisexual, androgynous heartthrob Pierre Clémenti, BOTD in 1942, died in 1999 at 57. The louche, sexually ambiguous, carnal Clémenti worked with so many great auteurs, including Bunuel, Bertolucci, Pasolini, Garel, Cavani, Costa-Gavras, Rivette, and Ivory

Sexbomb Brigitte Bardot was BOTD in 1934, turning 91 today. I know, I know, she ended up an extreme right wing racist homophobic hag, albeit an animal activist. She still made some great movies, especially Godard's "Contempt" (Le Mepris) (1963), which is one of my fave JLG movies

Posthumous HBD to Peter Finch (BOTD in 1926, died in 1977 at 60), immortal for his posthumously awarded Oscar 4 his electric turn as Howard Beale in Lumet's "Newtwork" (1976), but also 4 his groundbreaking gay kiss, w/ Murray Head, in Schlesinger's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (1971)

The wonderful actor Sada Thompson was BOTD in 1927 and died in 2011 at the age of 83. She played the ultimate mother on the 70's TV series "Family." She is also memorable in Frank D. Gilroy's "Desperate Characters" (1971), which I wrote about here: www.talkhouse.com/bruce-labruc...
