I'm so excited that my essay "Passionate Women, Vengeful Spirits: Female Ghosts and the Japanese Gothic Mode" has been published in Manusya: Journal of Humanities! Thank you to Kasia Ancuta for editing this special issue👻
It's open source and free to read here:

I say this with all sincerity, do not stop speaking about USAID. But also do not stop speaking about USIP, IRI, HIAS, KIND, IFES, and others.
It wasn’t just USAID. The budget also funded tens of thousands of workers at NGOs and other related orgs that partner with USAID. All of them have been decimated. Most employees who were fired, usually with only hours’ notice, have not found new jobs. We lost a generation of public servants.
Uh between this and your toe, is it time to slow down?
That’s why I have so much art on my walls😂
I had to read that sentence 4 times and I still don’t believe it.

One of my friends in CS and I were chatting about chat bots the other day and he said “they just answer organized word salad based on prompts; it’s not information” and that’s the most accurate description I’ve heard…
I would definitely not do it solo… you might injure yourself😬
That’s a Pilates machine (you can’t really use it by yourself) and it’ll kick your butt.

I do a Pilates-weights menu 2x a month with my PT (the other days are all weights) and the muscle aches afterward are incredible😂
Maybe it’s time to try subbing my spider lily poem again🌱
If she means “plant more trees and solve our heat island problems” I can’t argue with it.
Congratulations, Jeremy!!! Wonderful news🥳🥳🥳
Oh this is so lovely! Thanks for tagging me in. I’m so glad that he’s such a kind-hearted and warm person.

I’ve loved The Last Unicorn for as long as I’ve loved stories (basically my whole life). Read basically all of his short stories and novels… Tamsin and Summerlong are also favorites.
Omg yes.

So many! It’s such a cool place.
I hope this is true! That sounds very fun indeed.
The worst offenders in my classes had native level sentences in their finals but nowhere else. No points are awarded for grammar/syntax, only substance. When I explained that again, they repeated they were trying to get a better score😐 the woe I feel about this, the despair🫠
Next semester, I may use track changes in Word, or a Google Docs option that records a video of the composition. It feels silly but I think more oversight will encourage them to do their own work. They sincerely think it’s magic and we can’t see the difference b/w human and AI essays😬
Despite this, I’d say between 50-70% of students used some kind of AI modifications (usually Quillbot) and at least 30-40% outright copy-pasted some phrases or entire paragraphs.
This semester was about 3x the amount of AI I saw in Autumn 2024 semester.
I’ve had a very clear-cut no-AI policy since 2023. It includes the course learning goals and the purpose of writing and which resources are ok and which aren’t. Students can see it from Day 1.

Despite this transparent policy, I had the most AI and other cheating of my career this past semester.
I still have Xmas gifts I need to mail to friends from that annoying time period🫠
