Got a look at the ROG Xbox Ally X today and Silksong. Controls on the Ally X felt great. Couldn’t explore the OS at all. Silksong was fun too but honestly just a brief demo and I have no idea what comes next -

Big tech is in a race to make an AI gadget that can take down the iPhone. But Tim Cook doesn’t seem worried. If you look at where Apple is heading, the next stage of AI will still help the iPhone and Apple thrive (even if Siri needs more time): www.cnet.com/tech/apples-...
Apple's Rivals Are Betting Big on AI, but Tim Cook Doesn't Need to Worry

Apple’s recently pulled down video (the parent presentation) is part of a pattern of problematic marketing from Apple, and it got me thinking about what is different now compared to the iconic “cool Apple” ads of the past: www.cnet.com/tech/apple-a...
Apple Ads Aren't Cool Anymore. Here's What I Think Changed
Commentary: You don't need an 81-slide deck to convince your parents to buy you a Mac for college. Apple should change its tone to get its advertising groove back.

Universal patented new tech to pull off wild animatronics at Epic Universe — and it’s amazing how robots interact with guests (Toothless is wild). Plus so many animatronics exposed to Florida heat! I spoke with Universal about it and, yes, drone dragons are in the works: www.cnet.com/tech/i-never...

My reporting this week has me in Florida at Epic Universe before the grand opening, learning how robot dragons work in 90 degree heat, and how AR visors are used to battle Bowser. The wild future tech you see in your feed is making it into theme parks — stay tuned, more coming soon #epicuniverse

We’re at a new level of tech in theme parks, where the fantastical comes to life by playing tricks on your mind, blending actors, robotics and display tech. In this Tech Therapy, myself and @scottstein.bsky.social go inside Epic Universe before it opens (no on-ride spoilers!)

Hi! 👋 Been working on a new podcast project at CNET with @scottstein.bsky.social — because our tech world today is wild and we need to vent and laugh as we cope with change. We call it Tech Therapy. This week’s episode is impressive just from how many times we say “slop.” 🫠
Tech Therapy returns. @bridgetcarey.bsky.social and I weave through the AI Slop. It’s all slop. What is AI for exactly? I have no idea. Also Meow Wolf and I get to mention Tim & Eric youtu.be/JZnOEl6Ms0A

There’s much rage about Siri’s Intelligence being delayed.

It’s bad marketing to boast about unfinished magic. But Apple isn’t the only guilty party.

Now Apple is delaying to get it right. That’s better than treating us like guiena pigs with our most personal info. My take on the drama this week:

Back in November, I called out the early days of Apple Intelligence for missing the mark. (See below)

Some aspects have improved since, but the Internet is all FURY this week for Apple delaying AI Siri.

So of course I have more to say on this in tomorrow’s episode of One More Thing. Can’t wait. 😏

This week I get to watch robot baby dinosaurs hatch from gooey eggs. Here’s an exclusive early look at a toy that will bring out the kid in any Jurassic Park fan.

New York Toy Fair kicks off this weekend and I’ll be there to report how companies spare no expense on bringing toys to life with tech.
