There have been 3-4 drownings on Kauai in the past week or so. The surf has been high. I dunno why people go in...there are constant reminders on the radio, posters at the airport, red flags on beaches during high surf, etc., and both locals and visitors ignore it all.

Wolbachia are very interesting bacteria and I wrote about this technology 15 years ago as it was being developed. Cool stuff:

Raise your leo: Kauaʻi Mosquito Suppression
About the project Hawaiʻi’s forest birds are facing an extinction crisis. Avian malaria transmitted by non-native mosquitoes has decimated native forest bird populations. Of Kauaʻi’s 16 native honeycreepers, 10 have gone extinct. Of the remaining… Read More »

I swear the world is filled with misinformation now as journalism declines and all of the other info-nonsense going on. Yesterday a friend on Kauai said she'd heard mosquitoes were being released to "feed the birds" and was horrified some government agency was adding mosquitoes to the island […]

I flew poor man's first-class to the mainland overnight and after a benzo-induced coma it feels like the closest thing to teleportation humanity will ever achieve. Thanks, drugs!

Do any airlines still have their inflight magazines? American doesn't. Hawaiian did recently (and it was good) but not sure what happened to it after Alaska bought them. They were always good places for freelancers to get some work.

Stop overbooking flights? That's unAmerican!

American Airlines offered me $200 to get bumped off an overnight flight from Hawaii to Phoenix.

Cheap fucks.

Also thinking about parallels with the Epstein files - secret government documents about something really big that have not been revealed.

When people say "Just start leaking all the classified stuff" well...how come we still haven't seen the Epstein files? Because people with access to them […]

Watching "Age of Disclosure," a new documentary about the last decade or so of the UAP topic in the US. Certainly not much new but a good summary.

Two of the things that keep me wondering: In 2021, Dir of Natl Int released a report saying UAP are physical objects detected by multiple sensors & […]

Got a notice from WaPo that my personal data were exposed in a breach. The letter didn't say if the breach targeted employees/former employees or subscribers but did say that 9,562 people had been notified so it sounds like employees/formers were targeted, or a small number of subscribers, I […]

Not everything the Biden admin did has been killed. Kauai and Maui are getting electric busses in part thanks to federal dollars from the last admin.

There's still some good impact journalism out there helping to make change. Last week, a deeply-reported WaPo story showed how the town of Palmyra, Wis., was being torn apart after their little police dept. made an agreement with ICE.

Now: No more agreement with ICE.

I have successfully left Google photos and Google drive. They don't make it easy. There's no way to bulk delete all of your photos that I can find. I had to scroll through holding shift and delete 1000 at a time. But it's done. Fuck off, Google.

My google storage expires in a few days so I've been busy getting everything out of there. RIP my fiber connection. Their good little slavebots email me every day informing me my method of payment is expired. And of course they tried charging it about 10 days before the annual renewal date.
