Musician, cyclist, takes lots of photos, sometimes gets political. When I'm not in Devon, I'm in France in my little bit of paradise. https://www.facebook.com/unanglaisendiois/

The whole lot needs a deep dive. Cadwalladr was doing good stuff at the Graun, but that seemed to get snuffed out. Even given the right-wing press semi-stranglehold, Farage would be a career-forging case to investigate and publish for a mainstream team of journalists.

They need to do the follow-up now. I'll not hold my breath waiting for it though.

That word is the tell, and is the flag for his dishonesty.

Everything he's reported to have said in this BBC piece sounds like he's desperately trying to distance himself, knowing that the connection is real and toxic. If the press were investigating Farage with the same enthusiasm they went for Rayner, he'd be done for.

Nigel Farage 'stunned' ex-Wales Reform leader Nathan Gill took bribes
Nathan Gill has admitted taking money for pro-Russian statements as a European Parliament member.

It's all about whether the dialogue is in good faith... which requires listening to the other party and being prepared to modify one's own view, or, at the bare minimum, understand why they might have a different view. Without that, then there's no point in dialogue, sadly. Empathy is central.

Well, when the CEO of the asylum is a lunatic, it's not surprising when the staff are lunatics too.

Hope you find what you want!! Ditto my Ribble re not local to me.

Even with the size/reach of my French audience in France, I don't seem to have got the 'influencer's discount' (let alone freebies!)

Seriously, it's nice to support local businesses in any case. Not that it looked like Greendale needed any extra support today... it was heaving!

A short ride this afternoon to buy some bacon misshapes at Greendale Farm Shop (to go with lamb's liver, natch, for supper this evening), but with my camera at the ready for autumnal colours...

Just wish I'd learned how to spell 'structured'. Or to type. Or both.

It's rare for me to defend this kind of reporting, but given Starmer's apparent quest to alienate all the people who lent Labour their votes at the last election in the hope of getting something Labourish and EUish, for once I'll at least excuse it.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
I guess that pointing out that they didn't know how to spell 'calendar' is off topic (though, to be fair to me, I was looking to see if 'NF' featured on the board).

It's more than a little daft, when actual human languages, with their long and fascinating histories and having evolved with human brains, are dying out.

The problem is that you have a soul and a conscience.

"on Chinese goods", as China doesn't pay the tariffs, obviously.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
"Dump their beans" really should be a euphemism, if it's not already.

But for the time being, I'll cling on to a little bit of hope, given how depressing all politics is at the moment.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
OTOH, my 'initial reaction' might have credited Starmer with a lot more foresight, principle, cunning and political nous then he possesses. Maybe he really does think that he can please Farageistes and progressives at the same time.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
Te problem is though that in one year they've risked making themselves unelectable for a second term by alienating the people who voted them in, so if they did have a 10-year plan, it'll all come to nought.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
My initial reaction to Labour's win was that they'd unravel Brexit bit by bit to 'overcome technical blockages' without each incrment really being noticeable, until the UK was within touching distance of SM/CU without really knowing how we got there, but that they were planning on 10 years to do it.

Random photos from the ride into work an a grey grey day. Thank goodness for autumnal colours!!

Thanks. Ties in with my anecdotal observations.

That looks very Devon: Conservatives went to Reform, everyone else went to LibDems as the sensible vote to keep out Reform. In the absence of PR or ranked voting, tactical voting will be crucial to get this sort of result.
briantrumpet.bsky.social
Maybe Starmer will look at this and realise that he doesn't need to slavishly follow the Reform-lite tone set by Glasman and McSweeney. It was a confident performance by Polanski.

The fact that so many policy announcements seem to have been blurted out without preparing the political ground first and thinking about how to make them appeal to the most possible people first, suggests that your request might be in vain.
