Vegas is often characterized by the tourist trap that is the Strip, but the locals who live there are kind people who scoff at the gamblers and drunks. It's a decent town, but not without it's deplorables, like many cities in America.

Twists were never Nintendo's strong point. Many people view Wind Waker's ending favorably because it included the hint that Ganondorf MIGHT be a little justified in his hatred of Hyrule, which was seen as a twist.

The problem then being that it is never brought up again.

Not sure if Monster Rancher invented that concept, but I remember a handheld Tomagachi-like thing from the late 90s-early 00s called Skannerz that did that. It had thr Mortal Kombat naming convention with a Z at the end, so you know it was hardcore.
