[[They're old as hell and probably slightly out of date, but whatever. They're there now.
[[Only just realized neither of my accounts had the f-list link in the bio, I just. Completely forgot about them.

The tug on her back as her tail moves, the twist of her ears falling back flat against her head, the digits of her paws, the memory of sights and smells being so different from what they were now...

She shook her head, batting away the encroaching stress.

"Don't actually, I've heard it already."
Cass laughs to herself, closing her eyes and lifting a paw to rub at the fur on her snout.
"Tell me about it..."

She slouches down, resting her arms on her knees. Calling out what she was made the feelings come crashing back in on her.
-
The mew tilted his head in confusion right back. "I never said you were a child- why didja think that?" He asked, as if genuinely unaware that he implied anything offensive.

Well, he probably just had a weird perspective on the world, all things considered.

-
She tilted her head, both in confusion and annoyance.

"I'm not a child? And why you were glowing was a question I got before I even knew you were a mew, when I saw you glowing from beyond the trees."

She shook her head lightly, waving her paw to move on.
-
-
"I guess I just never, questioned why there were so few mew? In the same way there's only one Arceus or a single Palkia and Dialga."

"When more mew were discovered, I guess I just didn't think to reevaluate?"
She tilted her head, both in confusion and annoyance.

"I'm not a child? And why you were glowing was a question I got before I even knew you were a mew, when I saw you glowing from beyond the trees."

Locke did notice the lack of stick, but chose not to press the issue- figuring it may be a sore subject. Losing something so integral and all.

"I figured you would've gotten bored as soon as I stopped doin' it... Or had other questions for a mew- like why there's so few of us, or what we do."
"ooooh"

Cass tapped her digits on her knees, trying not to wiggle too much.

"I didn't know mew had to do that! I can't think of any other 'mon with that kind of relationship either..."

There's a moment of silence across the clearing as she thinks of a question, before halting.
-
-
"Wait what did you mean 'Still on that'? It's the first thing I asked. And it's only be about a minute since I got here."

Her tail sways behind her, and Locke gets a chance to see the lack of a stick that would be typical for braixens.

Ironically, he probably would've been /more/ happy to answer those other questions. He sighed, raising an eyebrow. "Still on about that...?"

"To make a looong story short, that was me usin' my brand- which is basically a way for us Mew to borrow some strength from the Big A upstairs."

-
She thought for a moment, staring off into space as her mind rapidly clicked through questions. Most of them would probably be weird to ask, she doubted Locke would be willing to go into detail about dietary habits and preferred living conditions. Not like she could make a report about it anyways.
-
-
"Okay, let me ask the obvious one then. What was the light about? Is it a move unique to you, or can all mew do that? What purpose does it serve?"

Her paws were on her knees, staring at you from across the field with a giddy expression.

"It's not urgent, or you wouldn't be okay interrupting it."

The mew nodded his head, leaning back in a seated position- despite not having a chair to sit in. He was just sat back.

"Alrighty! I believe you." he smiled. "So, what didja wanna ask a mew?"

"Oh, you can call me 'Locke' by the way. S'way shorter n' sweeter than my real name."
Cass held up her paws, nodding to Lock slowly.

"Don't you worry, I'm alone out here so I don't even have anyone to tell. Not anymore."
-
-
Idly, she wondered if he could see other truths about her. Her past as a human was off-limits to even gods, the curse of a wish made that very clear.

But maybe he could sense other things? Like the psychic echoing coming from the shards of an espeon's gem buried under the skin of her forepaws.
Cass held up her paws, nodding to Lock slowly.

He hummed quietly. "Well, I can offer ya' a compromise." He hummed, tail flickering about. "I don't feel comfortable lettin' all the fireworks rip with someone around. But you can talk to me and ask me questions!"

"All I ask is that you don't go blabbin' to folks all over the place...-
Cass scoffed internally, careful not to show it on her face. Several things about that statement were wrong, but it would be a fool's errand to correct them. Both facts she learned the hard way.
-

-
"I'm not getting any closer, if that's your concern. Mew are so reclusive we thought there was only one of you for a long time."

She waved her paw, sitting down on the grass. Now on the visible side of the bush.

"For that reason though, I want to watch. If that's fine?"
Cass scoffed internally, careful not to show it on her face. Several things about that statement were wrong, but it would be a fool's errand to correct them. Both facts she learned the hard way.

The mew tilted his head, placing his paws behind his back.

"Just watchin' the pretty lights, eh?" He commented, shrugging his shoulders. "Fair 'nuff! Though, mortal 'mons shouldn't have to concern themselves with what I can do!"

He doesn't seem to realize what Cass used to be, just yet.
Cass grimaced, peeking out from behind the bush and waving meekly. Right yeah of course, several years as a pokemon and *still* she forgets she can just Talk to them sometimes...

"Not a poacher, I just... Live nearby.
Saw the light show you were putting on... Just wanted to watch, is all"

The mew peered around a bit, exhaling quietly.

"I can sense your aura, y'know." He commented, resting his paws on his hips. "You're not one of those poachers, are ya'? I really don't wanna use force, so if you could just lemme know you're friendly, that'll be enough." He meowed, tail swaying about.
She did enough wildlife research back as a human to believe if she stayed still, and gave no indication she was approaching if she *was* spotted, that the mew would simply go back to what he was doing.
-
-
She hoped he did, at least.

For a moment, she was back doing something she enjoyed. Strung along by her curiosity just enough to feel like she was back in the life she lost to her mistake of a wish.

The feline's aura continued to flare ever brighter, his scarf bellowing in the windy force that emitted from him. Despite his shortness, he still looked decidedly fit and was clearly a very powerful creature...

"By your opposing--?"

His ears twitch as he stops. Did he notice Cass' presence...?
Cass, for all her apprehension, couldn't talk herself out of seeing what was going on. Her little camp in the forest wasn't far, close enough for the glow to be visible, and her curiosity always got the better of her.

She was as quiet as she could, ducking behind a bush and across the open field.
-
-
Now here she was, gawking at the sight of a mew engaging in some undocumented, and rather pretty, behavior.

It took some effort to remind herself that, even if she did take notes with her lack of stationary, she wasn't a research assistant anymore and hadn't been for years...

The mew is standing in a clearing, a single paw raised to his chest as he mutters incantations to himself.

A shimmering aura radiates around him all the while.

He may or may not even notice the reader watching him... Do they press their luck?

"Crimson seal, carved upon my soul's abyss..."

[[It took me 2 years to write a chapter 2 to a story I started, at which point I had rusted back over and the second chapter wasn't even any better than the first.
Cass halfheartedly swats at the hand as it approaches her, paw passing through the magic harmlessly.
It felt like it was on top of her head for days, patting at her hair. Fur? Fur was the better word for it, she supposed.

"If I had gotten them a different way, I might not have hated them so much."
❝I can't say I understand why the distaste for magic. Not many are gifted with such abilities.❞

She scoffed.
"Gift my ass."

The fire shot down the stick, burning it to ash in her paw and letting it crumbling back to the ground.

"You can show off all the spells you want, just don't make me do any."
