Twenty years after its release as a single and "Wasteland" by 10 Years is still a great song.

Upgrading my @opnsense.org firewall from 24.7 to 25.7, using a USB drive so I could change from UFS to ZFS, could not have been easier. It only took about 15 minutes from the initial reboot to finished upgrade.

Went to start the '98 Sonoma so I could pick up a washer and dryer. The battery was dead. Jumped it, got it started, and told myself on the drive to leave it running. Immediately turned it off when I arrived at the pickup spot. Now waiting for another jump. 🤦🏼

For home services or labs: At what point do you stop self-hosting on your own server and move to paying for a cloud service like Linode?

While driving to the gym this morning, a Krispy Kreme delivery truck pulled out in front of me. I feel like that's a sign.

Does anyone have a good process for backing up Google Photos and uploading to Proton Drive? I found an article about using rclone but starting March 31, 2025 it can only download files it uploaded. I would like to keep the original creation dates.

I was tired of my glasses always sliding down when working out so I bought these silicon hooks. Five pairs for $4 on Amazon. Worked like a charm. Photo from Amazon listing.
Silicon hook add-on for glasses. They slide on to the back so they hook behind the ear to hold glasses on place.

If you haven't seen Tyler Perry's "Straw" on Netflix, I highly recommend it. It held my attention from beginning to end. Definitely did not expect that ending.

Looking forward to my first trip to NYC but wish it was for more than a day and a half. At least the meeting I have to be at is only 2 to 3 hours so that gives me more free time to explore.

I think it's lame you can't connect a Roku to a wireless network if there is no Internet access. My modem may be down but I would still like to stream media from my local @jellyfin.bsky.social server.

Four years ago, I worked a project for a customer and they sent me two laptops. The project ended six months later. I tried for almost a year to send them back but no ever one responded. Today, after 3.5 years of them sitting in a box in my office, I received a return label.

Finished up testing week at the gym. I went up 5 pounds on bench press (230) and 10 pounds on deadlift (350) but stayed the same on back squat (315). I could have got more on the squat but I wasn't hitting depth. Five pounds isn't much on bench but it's still a win.

I am not educated in shipping logistics but I don't think USPS chose the best path for the battery I ordered. It has gone:

Plainfield, IL
Chicago, IL
Nashville, TN
Chicago, IL
Fox Valley, IL
Chicago, IL
Nashville, TN

Let's see if it goes back to Chicago or is delivered soon.

PM: It's really important that you're on this customer call. They need your input on a few things.

I'll have to give it another try the next time I go to Dallas. The brisket I got was pretty dry. The jalapeno sausage was top tier. Pork ribs were good.

I'm headed to Dallas for a quick trip soon and people have been telling me I have to go to Terry Black's for the best BBQ. Is it really worth it or is there somewhere better? Any suggestions appreciated.

The only way to "fix" it was to disable AI and Spotlight. Once I did that, my free space is staying over 300 GB. Here are the before/after pics showing the system data difference. I have re-enabled Spotlight for Apps and Folders and the free space is staying consistent.
System data using 437 GB of space with Apple AI and Spotlight enabled. System data using 107.5 GB of space with Apple AI and Spotlight disabled.

Anyone else ran into an issue with losing all their free space after upgrading to macOS 15.x and enabling Apple AI? My free space fluctuated between 130 GB and 150 MB. When it got too low, my laptop would crash.

It has worked really well for me but I was a basic Evernote user. I like the organization of notes in notebooks and being able to sync across platforms. Notebooks can be nested so I have one that is Customers and then a notebook per customer under that.

Not sure why I get this a lot when trying to log into different Microsoft accounts. I've tried 3 different browsers, on/off VPN, etc. and nothing helps outside of keep trying until it works.
