Thistle of rain.
We seek temple from tempest,
litany in lightning,

a mottled crowd huddled,
backs to the wall,
gasping for refuge.

Then, in an instant, the heavens smile

A collective dash for shelter in the city takes on a spiritual, near-religious power

Perhaps this is the reason he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a beloved brother—both in the flesh and in the Lord. So if you consider me your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.

From my new poem inspired by the 7th chapter of the Gospel according to John.

The people were curious.
The authorities, cautious.

Nicodemus spoke out:
"The law requires a hearing
for an arrest and detention."

Oh wow — this appears to be footage of the incident from yesterday, in which Rev. Jorge Bautista, a United Church of Christ minister, was shot in the face with a pepper ball — which may have exploded before impact? Or is a slightly different munition? — by an apparent DHS agent while protesting ICE.
From the people that pretend to be Christian, they hit a clergyman directly while protesting.

They’ve gone from attacking marginalized communities to attacking the community in general. Now they are openly attacking religious institutions.
Many priests and heads of families, old people who had seen the first house on its foundations, wept with a loud voice when they saw this house, though many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the people’s weeping

Generous Giver, you pour forth your extravagant bounty without measure upon your whole creation: Teach us such generosity, that the fruits of our spirits and the works of our hands may build your commonwealth of blessing. Amen.

On the Feast of St. James of Jerusalem:

God of revelation and reform,
we thank you for James and his change from unbelief
to knowing Jesus, his brother, as Savior,
and dying for his faith.
Grant that when we are wrong
we may trust you enough to change.
Amen.

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them.

On the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist:

Jesus, the crucified,
let not our feet take us from suffering
to the other side of the road;
keep us, with Luke,
helpers, healers, and bearers of hope.
Amen.

I thought it was so sweet and caring of this Eunuch and foreigner to save Jeremiah and think of the padding when the 3 men pulled him up with ropes ❤️
Then Ebed-melech the Cushite said to Jeremiah, “Just put the rags and clothes between your armpits and the ropes.” Jeremiah did so. Then they drew Jeremiah up by the ropes and pulled him out of the cistern. Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Cushite, “Take three men with you from here, and pull the prophet Jeremiah up from the cistern before he dies.” So Ebed-melech took the men with him and took old rags and worn-out clothes, which he let down to Jeremiah in the cistern by ropes.

#Jeremiah38 2/3
Ebed-melech the Cushite, a eunuch in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. So Ebed-melech spoke to the king, “My lord king, these men have acted wickedly in all they did to the prophet Jeremiah by throwing him into the cistern to die there of hunger.”

“See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

When they hand you over, do not worry about what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time; for it is the Spirit speaking.”

Giving thanks for the Israelis and Palestinians returning home today! Praying for the families of those who have died and for peace 🙏🏼
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.

Ps. 1

To be happy,
don’t be a jerk.

Bask in the divine glow.
Cultivate and delight in wisdom.

Be like a tree
whose roots drink in water
and branches burst forth fruit
season after season.

Wicked ways lead
to withered days.

Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

If I speak in the tongues of mortals & of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have prophetic powers & understand all mysteries & all knowledge & if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

#1Corinthians12 #dailyoffice
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit & there are varieties of services, but the same Lord & there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Good Lord, deliver us. 📕
from pride, vainglory, and hypocrisy; from envy, hatred, and malice; and from all want of charity,
"Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when Jesus heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.”
