In 2024, I wrote a story for Texas Monthly about Michelle Haas, whose complaints resulted in the removal of books about slavery from historic Texas slave plantations. Haas sued us, alleging defamation, and was represented by the preferred lawyer of billionaire J.P. Bryan. Today, we won on appeal.

Uhh, LA is less than 20 miles from the coast (a border) but neither of those places is more than a 100-150 miles from Mexico.

Legally speaking, the border’s jurisdiction extends 100 miles into the United States from every border (including the coast,) sooo..it’s pretty vast. Grossly so.

Babies born vaginally, never touched by anything but mom, a routine heel prick (and hopefully vitamin K)? It’s fine. They’re fine.

800 detainees are missing after being held in Alligator Alcatraz in July, showing no record of their location in ICE’s database.

Other detainees have been mistakenly deported or sent to detention centers thousands of miles away.

The cruelty is the point.

It’s a *little* bit finicky, but doing great now that I have them in partial shade (zone 8.)

There was an impressive amount of tumeric rhizomes under this one that I moved to a pot though! Pulled up 6x what I planted in early spring.
