Much discussion of "false equivalence' here. But when you know the Israelis imprison Palestinian children for throwing stones it's clear "hostages" is correct on both sides, and almost 2000 Palestinians are held as opposed to 20 Israelis. The injustice of it is hard to take at times.

Water is a very powerful phenomenon, I'd say its best not to build on flood plains at all. The only people who suffer are those buying new homes there, often unaware of the flooding potential.

Occupational health & safety
Workplace pensions
Paid holidays
Equality laws
The right not to be sacked because you got married, had a baby, or became ill
Pay increases
The minimum wage
A standard of living above that of 1850s Britain.
